XTC - Life Begins At The Hop (2001 Digital Remaster) =20 It's time to put your 'quirky' hats on and travel back in time to the = late '70s and early '80s when edgy, tension-filled Pop gems were being = released to an unsuspecting public. The tracks here are not manufactured = and calculated slices of odd Pop: this is real, honest artistic = expression. Many of these tracks and acts have become Punk and New Wave = legends including XTC, Buzzcocks, Wire, Scars, Gang Of Four, PiL and = many others. EMI would have been better getting this out a couple of = years ago, when today's bands first began investigating post-punk en = masse. Still, this compilation nicely captures the late-70s/early-80s = period when the country's best bands used jagged, spiky guitar sounds to = channel late 20th-century panic. The absence of non-EMI (or subsequently = acquired Virgin) acts like the Banshees notwithstanding, all the usual = suspects are here, from Gang of Four to Wire. Two XTC cuts also trace = the beginnings of Swindon's finest in angular pop, and there are = forgotten gems l ike Modern Eon's aching Euthenics and the Flys' = sing-along-with-vitriol anthem, Love and a Molotov Cocktail. Bloc Party = and others have smoothed these sounds for mass consumption, but they = sure don't make them like this anymore. web: www.redsunrecords.com [demime 0.97c-p1 removed an attachment of type image/gif which had a name of speaker-nbr.gif] ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 5 Feb 2008 09:04:40 -0800 (PST) From: Ari Subject: [idealcopy] o.t: This from Gorillaz.......
