Two tickets for Eels in York, #20 each, which I can just about swallow, but with the ticketmaster add-ons (including about #2.75 for standard post - WHY?) it was a few pence shy of #50. I'd tried going directly through the venue, but was redirected to Ticketmaster. What a rip-off ///////actually i also had an eels/ticket agency experience in recent times , disappointing in a different way. my brother is an eels fan and wanted to see a date on this tour , we fancied the b'ham town hall one. as ever , he waited too long and by the time i investigated tickets the venue had sold out. however , a few agencies had tickets so i thought we'd be ok. sadly these were not "conventional" agencies like ticketmaster , they were sort of "tout sites" asking crazy prices. there were 3 different agencies offering tickets at between #120 and #135 a pop. now i mean if this was led zep or U2 maybe this might work , but who on earth is going to pay that much to see the Eels? they tour every year and last had a hit some time in the early 90's. ok they may have a hardcore fanbase , but presumably most are brighter than my bro and would get in quick for tickets. seems like the tout community have worked out a nice new angle , all a bit sad really. p ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 12:50:25 -0800 (PST) From: RJH Subject: [idealcopy] Devo Plays Microsoft! So I managed a pretty nice day yesterday. It was the opening day of the MacWorld exhibit hall in SF yesterday, so I spent the day nosing around the endless booths loaded with every iMac/iPod/iPhone accessory you could want! I missed the keynote speech, but did manage to get a ticket to Microsoft's MacBlast party at the Warfield, featuring a full-length (and very good) set from Devo! Interestingly, the first time I'd seen them was in the same venue about 30 years ago when they toured after "Duty Now for the Future"! The spuds are definitely a bit older, but their voices are still good and they really know how to put on a great show! They opened with a couple of unfamiliar songs, but from there on, it was as complete a career retrospective as you could want. Good stuff! In another unexpected reformation (although not quite up there with MBV) the Roundhouse are host to X-Ray Spex on 6 September - only apparently only Poly remains from the original line-up. Now, given that I was sat behind Poly at the RFH Wire gig. what do you reckon the chances are? (next to zero I'd suspect given that this would smack too much of a saddo punk tour, but I'll turn out for the Spex anyway). As a very reluctant Ipod user (only because my lovely Iriver h320 died and Crapple appear to be the only people who make high-capacity mp3 players) this is my idea of hell!!! Unless of couse they sold some sort of volume-booster for the ipod...curse the EU volume limit! I suppose they want to be protecting the eardrums of youth of Europe but what about those of us who already have dodgy hearing from 20 years of watching gigs/playing bass etc?!! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2008 20:41:33 -0800 (PST) From: RJH Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Devo Plays Microsoft! Hah hah! I'm with you on that! I'm a windows person and having gone through the whole Sony Walkman dealie, have no interest in iPod's, so spending the day with people who treat Apple as a religion was pretty trippy! And I agree on the age/volume subject as I was not expecting Devo to be THAT loud and my ears are still ringing from last night! Electrolad - I did indeed get one of the card sets, I had originally thought it was just a regular deck of cards, but what a cool bunch of images!! I'm still kind of kicking myself for not getting an energy dome to properly represent! Mike - Yes, Mark did sing the "Ohio" bit during Jocko Homo! And I think the unexpected treats for the night were "Slap Your Mammy/Gut Feeling" and "Smart Patrol/Mr DNA" both of which they Killed!! Bob singing "Secret Agent Man" was pretty cool too! Good for them for still being themselves and totally cool!
