Oddly, it seems less likely than ever that the group will go their separate ways. Read and Burn 03 is a stand alone EP, rather than a taster for their upcoming album, and while it's hardly a metamorphosis, it is a Wire that has sprouted new wings and antennae here and there. There is a sense of urgency, of time past, of being out on the road, embedded in this EP. Opener "23 Years Too Late", so named as 23 years ago, Wire were coming to the end of their first period out of commission, oscillates sharply between Wire's bass and treble poles: the lugubrious portentious Graham Lewis and Colin Newman, who almost impatiently picks up the baton and the pace for the chorus, while all the while Bruce Gilbert's guitar ticks stoically and consistently away in the backline. But then the track seems to take flight, as the guitars suddenly spread out like a bank of cumulus cloud. The almost Young Gods-like aerial touch is maintained on "Our Time" and the adrenalin-injected "No Warning Given". With "Desert Diving", Newman's caustic vocal rain tops off what you'd have to call a classic Wire outing. Medium paced but remorseless, their collective heartbeat as strong as ever" Fergus http://www.roomtemperature.org http://www.asullenrelapse.blogspot.com http://www.myspace.com/ferguskellyrecordings http://www.flickr.com/photos/55867717@N00/sets/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Dec 2007 22:03:10 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] party at ari's >>mark bursa is dj'ing<< Ah, then you'd REALLY have a party! ;-) My rates are competitive, though I'd expect business class travel...
