I used to listen to Stimmung - the 70 minute work for six voices - quite regularly and, thinking about it, I need to get it on CD - a new recording came out earlier this year IIRC. Live, it's wonderful as the singers weave their voices around each other. I went to a few of his works at the Barbican some years back and they were all of interest, especially Hymnen. I also saw his opera, Donnerstag aus Licht, which was impressive but rather silly - my abiding memories are of a trumpeter ascending a globe and a remote controlled toy tank falling off a ramp. I believe I read somewhere that he lived in a house in a forest illuminated only from the outside by spotlights. Which sounds interesting. His influence is larger than most people realize, without Stockhausen there's be no Glass, who doesn't come close, although I do like a fair amount of his work also. Interestingly, I developed a website for a relative of his who lives in an historic building here in San Jose, California. It's cool that Pollstar mentions some of the contemporary musicians he influenced, but surprised to not see Kraftwerk mentioned, as it seems like every story about them I read for years mentioned Stockhausen.
