Maybe 5 years ago I may not have warmed to them, but I need something a bit different atm. I'm sure we all go through these phases! Not a goblin or Elf in sight tho. Saw them on Later last week, and wasn't impressed. They had a decent beat for sure, but if I wanted to listen to silly speeded up vocals, I'd dig out my battered childhood copy of Bridget The Midget. Honestly, I thought that number was awful beyond words. Someone on another list said I missing the point! That the vocal bit was just hammed up for the show, but I can only judge on what I hear. And that performance certainly didn't inspire me to check them out, which is surely the point of the show? Maybe they should have issued a disclaimer! K. It comprises four tracks, but stretches out to about 25 minutes, thanks to the long (possibly overlong) opener, 23 Years Too Late. The contrasting textures of that opener, the hypnotic repetition of Our Time, the gorgeous melody of No Warning Given and the gradual evolution of Desert Diving demonstrate a great band near the peak of their powers. Were told that none of this material will end up on the next Wire album. If were to assume from this that theyre working on better songs than these, then were in for a real treat. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Ari Sent: 14 November 2007 10:30 To: rose_dan@colstate.edu; idealcopy@smoe.org; idealcopy@smoe.org Subject: Re: [idealcopy] visit the museum of backward hats >>Man that RB3 is very good indeed. Hmmmmm.....To these ears 23 Years Too Late does not overstay welcomes. It seems to evolve over the ten minutes, gaining momentum and creating a real tension between the two parts. I like the way GL starts kinda monotone and seems to twirl and spit some words by the end. I was thinking (never a good thing) that what separates this from most of what I'm putting between my ears of late is the sheer inteligence of the thing. There's much to chew on. Well crafted. I've been living with it awhile and it keeps growing....... - ----- Original Message ----- From: Andy Lumbard Date: Sunday, November 18, 2007 6:32 am Subject: RE: [idealcopy] visit the museum of backward hats > Well, at least The Sunday Times has picked up on it! > > http://tinyurl.com/2u43q4 > > **** > > The latest EP or research and development vehicle, as they > prefer to put > it from Wire reveals that the postpunk foursome are as engaged and > inventive as ever. Thought Mr A might appreciate the Glitterstomp at least. I like that particular track, the vocals were meant to sound like that, and this clip does them great service I think. Not all their tracks are as immediate as this one. I Can't accuse them of not making an effort to push the envelope and having this broadcast on national tv is a fine thing indeed. But if you look at the most recent photo of the band on the site, albeit from 2006 http://www.pinkflag.com/assets/look/gallery/portraits/2006-malka-spigel.jpg Notice someone missing? I'm sure all will become clear. Good to have Wire keeping us all guessing anyway. steve ninehouser wrote: > I really don't think it's true that BG is not involved (though I could > be wrong).
