Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' is one of the Great Ones. I'm hearing that John Hillcoat (The Proposition) is slated to film an adaptation of 'The Road'. Mixed feelings on a film adaptation, but I honestly can't think of a better person than the director who filmed The Proposition. I have all of the Cormac McCarthy novels at home, along with a couple of his plays, and I hold him in high esteem as my favorite author. 'No Country For Old Men' and 'The Road' are both noticeably more accessible than most of McCarthy's other novels (especially 'Suttree', which took a while with its outlandish vocabulary), but without sacrificing intensity or bite. McCarthy's 'Blood Meridian' stands as the most disturbing novel that I've ever read, but also one of the best that I've ever read. Word around the campfire is that Ridley Scott has been wanting to film this novel for the longest time. I'm hard-pressed to imagine, however, how the violence of 'Blood Meridian' could ever be put into film without having the harshest film rating in history. Off subject...Not sure how my original post ended up as one large grammar-absent paragraph, as I had spaced everything accordingly. This new Windows Live Hotmail thing is irritating sometimes.
