The remixed MH was a real missed opportunity; allegedly failed to see the light of day due to certain members' displeasure at Mr Newman's guitar solo....;-) Nevertheless there seemes to be a view in the camp that at some stage the 80s stuff will be ripe for rediscovery - though the production clearly is the sticking point. Whether it's possible to "de-produce" the 80s stuff is another matter. Would be nice.... There was talk of a Manscape remix a while back - I suspect the number of hours in the day may be the obstacle for these projects! However, this version is as close to the ideal as it's got so far."<< ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2007 11:58:43 +0100 From: "Uri Baran" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Newman on Madman's Honey Hi Ian, Would be nice, that side of Wire was largely repressed in the last incarnation. I seem to remember you are a Punilux fan, well if you haven't noticed, there's a couple of tracks of video of a very recent one off reformation of said group on their myspace page. It came out of nowhere, apparently for Jimi Giro's 50th and I watched with an open mouth, fantastic. It features the lineup from 'laughing Academy'. Watch Brian Bond sing 'Puppet Life' for the first time in 24 years (I was at the last time). :))))) U. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ian B" To: Sent: Saturday, October 13, 2007 12:55 PM Subject: [idealcopy] Newman on Madman's Honey >I wonder if this quote from Colin Newman on PInk Flag (describing the >version > of Madman's Honey on Coatings) is indicative of post-reactivation > possible/actual activity. > > "Like most 1980s Wire, which in my view is cast in an unfavourable light > by > '80s-style production, this song has yet to see its ultimate version. > However, > this version is as close to the ideal as it's got so far." > > > -- > No virus found in this incoming message. > Checked by AVG Free Edition. > Version: 7.5.488 / Virus Database: 269.14.9/1069 - Release Date: > 10/13/2007 7:26 PM ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 16 Oct 2007 01:39:40 +0100 From: Tim Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Newman on Madman's Honey MarkBursa@aol.com wrote: > I noticed that too. Terrific thrash through 'Ambitious' on there, done at Chairs Missing speed. Never really live stuff from that period before and the white-light/'beat combo' treatment of the songs gives an idea of a de-produced version might sound like. n.p V/a - Planet Mu - Two Hundred ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Oct 2007 20:49:45 EDT From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Newman on Madman's Honey >>Terrific thrash through 'Ambitious' on there, done at Chairs Missing speed. Lazy journalism - 80s Wire live is just as much a "beat combo" as 70s Wire or 21st century Wire. Suspect what's in mind is a bit more than putting out a straight live album (though the Astoria 88 gig would be nice). Mark E assuming the role of a sort of Manc Lee Scratch Perry over MOM's spiky electro-thrash/dubstep. Its fun, and some of MES's better lyrics/vocals of recent years. Ultimately I prefer me Mark E Smith with some rambling, tuneless rockabilly stomp...and my Mouse on Mars without MES spitting all over it but its ok to mix yer drinks once in a while. Another quite good record in the great 2007 quite good Records pile. > The Leeds show was disappointingly cancelled. Apparantly, and surprisingly, > due to poor ticket sales. Or do Fall purists didain such extra curricular > activities? Reports on Fall forum says its a good show, MES having lots more knobs to fiddle with than usual but not getting the punters in though. Not sure why really I guess Fall fans save their pennies for the all too frequent actual Fall gigs and given the amount of whinging I heard about the DJ at the last Fall gig I went to a lot of 'em probably don't care for the old techno. MOM themselves don't have much of a name here in their own right, so falls right between two rather loose stools. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V10 #209 ********************************
