Yeah, whilst it's always good to see Marc on the telly, trying to fit someone's life into about 22 minutes of viewing time seems rather pointless and is always gonna leave you wanting more. Call me old fashioned, but are people not capable of watching an entire performance any more? It would be nice to watch something more than a musical soundbite. Still, I'm off to see the tribute gig at Shepherds Bush next weekend - Bolan songs performed by lots of other artists. Andy Ellison, Tony Visconti, Marc Almond, Dr Robert, Rolan Bolan, Ray Dorset are all gonna be there apparently. As is, er, Shakin' Stevens!! On a different note, anyone else into Alan Vega's latest album, Station? He's in an uncompromising mood. Some of the titles - Freedom's Smashed and Gun God Game - will give you some idea how he's feeling. He's not happy. Indeed he's probably the noisiest grumpy old man you'll hear all year. Utterly unexpected. Hopefully it'll mean a few quid in his pocket. Welcome Jack, You should check out the strange, middle period stuff as well (The Ideal Copy, Coatings, A Bell is a Cup Until it is Struck..and the rest), it all has a somewhat uncool 80s sheen that hasn't quite matured but is an essential listen and there is some fantasic music underneath the Fairlights and Linn Drums. Does anyone know when/if they will be touring again They might...keep an eye on this list, and of course: http://www.pinkflag.com/ which has only recently been re-activated and is now the official source of information (which has been in short supply for the past couple of years) so stick around. Looked like an hr long special hacked down to 22 min by ITV bosses who are increasingly paranoid about anything that loses ratings/doesn't feature Ant & Dec/phone in gambling. 1/2 hour of Bolan on ITV before 11pm is positively 'fringe' and radical for them. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V10 #185 ********************************
