((( Surely they were. Their philosophy, and its expression in their lifestyle and music, was honest, original, and reflective of a side of America that New York and Hollywood were never concerned with. Of course, if their music was not good, this would be a minor point at best, but it was very good...angular, marxist,start/stop,and arty, with behind the scenes influences ranging from Parliament/Funkadelic to Creedence to Coletrane. ((( I sometimes wonder what they might've sounded like today had d.boon not passed away.. strange to say, but perhaps not quite as interesting, as their output was such a part of its time (and their youth), but then d.boon & watt may have had enough of the screaming matches and went their separate ways (the cover of Buzz Or Howl Under The Influence Of Heat is actually a portrait of d.boon & watt fighting, which their drummer George Hurley describes as being par for the course riding in watt's van to various gigs) we jam econo is a documentary from a year or so ago, highly recommended, ((( I remember flagging this last year, and, yes, it is excellent. PLUS a whole extra DVD of gig footage. Watt played Dublin two years ago and was stunning, rounding off the set with The Minutemen's 'Corona' and The Pop Group's 'We Are Time', a particularly fine example of a cover which actually IMPROVED on the original ! Amongst various activities, Watt now plys his 'thud staff' for Iggy... and Mr. C. Newman makes a brief appearance in which he states that wire were quite aware of the influence they had on that era of musicians, in this case particularly regarding the length of songs. ((( Colin mints a new word in his brief appearance - "minimality".
