On the basis of one reading just as it was issued I came away thinking it was factually accurate and the judgments were sound but the theoretical stuff did seem to be the author's pet theories and not have a lot to do with Faust. Anyone who has heard the band but doesn't know much about them can take the book as a reliable source but if you've followed them, as I have, for over 30 years there's not too much that you won't know. Like a lot of music books I've read there seems to be to be precious little new material and I'd really like to see books about bands I like where, in any interviews, the musicians are probed a little deeper (if you pardon the expression) rather than allowed to ramble on. "Stretch Out Time" is a good title (for a song or a book) but I don't know what it really has to do with Faust. Apart form the sheer subjective pleasure I take in the band, I would say Faust were all about the clash of perspectives and how they are unified if you stand back far enough. That would be my pet theory if I ever got off my arse and wrote my Faust book "Yes I See You Are The One To Be Me" (or somesuch). Naove question but is 134 Curtain Road all we need to know, as in, does it have another name? Do we need a password or a secret handshake or anything like that? Another naove question - am uploading Wir1stLtr to itunes as I write. Anyone know who does the 'Attempts to fly are welcome ...' vocal sample on 'A bargain at 3 and 30..'. Unless it's Graham doing one of his hilarious impressions.
