I have to admit that Andy Wilson's Faust book was a big disappointment. Most of it is dedicated to his lengthy and tiresome analysis of Faust LP's - I would rather listen to the albums than read an almost note by note description of each track (!), followed by texts not much better than most first degree students. Speaking of which, not a new book, but Simon Frith (brother of Fred and a distinguished rock academic in his own right) and Andrew Goodwin's "On Record" is the best (and one of the only) anthology in the field of Academic theory & criticism of rock. I can't write any book list without mentioning Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow" - not a rock book - just the best novel I've ever read. giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Jun 2007 22:17:55 +0100 From: "Keith A" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Tim Buckley - My Fleeting House > Interestingly enough, the OGWT DVD performance is Dolphins - I'm actually > thinking that's why it's on the Buckley DVD. (Yes - I have the R2 PAL > version of the OGWT DVD - I didn't think that it would come out in the US! > D'oh!) Recently picked up the first two DVD's cheapish, but not got vol 3 as yet. Some great stuff, if you're prepared to wade through bands with horrible fiddy bits and Randy Newman! Shame some of the stuff that Mark mentioned being on the shows on tv a few years back, wasn't included on the dvd's though. Actually, it was all a bit odd really - some of these performances were, some weren't because they showed the 'other track' that a particular band performed, rather than the one they put on the dvd. If that makes sense ; ) > >> Keith, did Tim Buckley ever play the Buckley Tivoli? >> > > Heh! Not to the best of *my* knowledge! (^_-) > > (Had to Google the Buckley Tivoli - looks....interesting...(^_^;)) Sadly it seems on its last legs now. Gigs seem to be a thing of the past, too. But I've spent some, er, interesting nights there, and seen some great acts there like Julian Cope, The Fall and...Alvin Stardust! ; ) Hell, on grab-a-granny night there many years ago, I was amazed to see George McCrae wander onstage! Just bought this and was intending to read it next. In fact, I went back into the smoke-filled Corsica Studios, evading security men, to buy it at the recent gig. Ah well. Now where's that James Tiptree Jr biography? another the Keith - -----Original Message----- From: owner-idealcopy@smoe.org [mailto:owner-idealcopy@smoe.org] On Behalf Of giluz I have to admit that Andy Wilson's Faust book was a big disappointment.
