I belong to what is considered in Israel the extreme left, I support a Palestinian state based on the 1967 cease fire resolutions. I support economic and political boycotts on Israel and of course I am against the Israeli wide-held belief that it should be a "jewish" state instead of a place where every citizen has equal rights, regardless of his or hers nationality or religion.. While Israeli academics represent the wide ranges of Israeli political opinions, it is still one of the only places where extreme and less extreme anti-occupation doctrines are debated and most of the time supported. The boycott will only serve those Israelis who are against the free discussion of those kind of ideas in Israeli universities, one of the only places here where they can be expressed openly. If anyone of you teaches or works at an academic institution in the UK, please do whatever you can to oppose this decision, since it can considerably weaken Israel's anti-occupation forces. giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V10 #104 ********************************
