Once they finally came on (at 22.30..a time when most bands are into encore time these days!) It was shaping up to be a monumental gig until MES ushered the band off stage after just 8 songs (and one of them was sung by the current Mrs Smith!). They came back for an encore of 'Blindness' which MES sang half of from the wings, the rest he handed the mike to the audience (cue lots of feedback) and spent the rest of the song doing the usual fiddling with amps, prodding wifes keyboard etc. The band dragged him back on for one more encore and that was it! The new band are excellent and MES, when he could be bothered to sing, was on pretty good form...I just would have like 3 or 4 more songs. I'm all for keeping it short (no gig should be more than 90 mins in my book..leave that 3 1/2 hour gig nonsense to Dylan/Springsteen/Badly Drawn Boy fans) but #20 for 10 songs is not good value! (Didn't see many Coal Miners and Steelworkers in the audience!)
