Going off on a tangent, I would definitely recommend stand-up comedian Stewart Lee's own live dvd, called appropriately enough Stand Up Comedian. Truly excellent stuff - his famous routine re Princess Di's death and the inflatable E.T. is as good as it gets for me. Lee is also a big fan of The Nightingales, who have a new cd coming out very soon, entitled What's Not To Love. It's a six track cd, so I'm not sure if it's an ep or a mini album, but I've managed to get hold of a copy and it sounds typically fine on early listens. Be interested to know how they measure up to the 'Heads Roll' Fall >who were quite a thunderous slab of wonderfulness.<< > The new Fall is pretty decent. I bought the CD here in Atlanta last week when the U.S. release hit the stores. It's certainly not one of the best Fall albums, but I'd place it along the "second tier" level of albums from the band (or rotating system of personnel around Mark E. Smith, I suppose I should say). It takes a certain mindset to like a song like "Das Boot" and I suppose I'm of that mindset. I also love "My Door Is Never". The group photo on the U.S. release album cover is amusing...Mark E. Smith looks like he's surrounded by grandchildren. I'm curious about when Smith, his wife, and whatever Darker My Love band members aren't playing with Darker My Love at the moment will come by Atlanta. As far as where the new Fall album stands, my personal "2007 albums so far" ranking goes something like this... 1. The Rosebuds - Night Of The Furies (you can listen to the whole streaming album on Merge Records) 2. The Early Years - The Early Years (2007 US release) 3. The Church - El Momento Siguiente 4. Deerhunter - Cryptograms (local Atlanta band makes real good) 5. Sister Vanilla - Little Pop Rock 6. Peter Bjorn And John - Writer's Block (2007 US release) 7. The Fall - Post-TLC Reformation! 8. Lily Allen - Alright, Still... (2007 US release...and I'd appreciate no harrassment about this one, as everyone has similar guilty pleasures in their collection.) Of course, eagerly awaiting the Githead release. The songs on the website are keen. Favorite 2007 reissue: The Triffids - Calenture I haven't forgotten about this mailing list, by the way. I read it every day, but haven't posted in awhile. Things are going well. Wire is still great, Victoria's Secret is still great, and Wire songs in Victoria's Secret commericals are a welcome touch. It's a good commerical, although I saw the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez flick, Grindhouse, last night, and am now more partial to Rose McGowan's opening pole dance sequence. Anyway, hope everyone else is happy and healthy. Jason _________________________________________________________________ The average US Credit Score is 675.
