I'm losing track of how many times these have been reissued. It wouldn't matter but the sleeve quality on the last lot (before the box of late last year) was noticeably worse that the '80s issues, as if they'd lost the original artwork and just copied the '80s CD sleeves. Excellent! Agree re the Diagrams - excellent lost band. They pull off the rare trick of very funny, deadpan lyrics matched with deadly serious, non-comedy music. I think comparing them to the Fire Engines is a little unfair on both bands, though there's a 'celebration of the mundane' element in both. But the FEs are a much more angry beast, all twisted Beefheart riffs, while the Diagrams are as angular as angular post-punk gets. >>and we don't need the comsat angels. no-one needs the comsat angels. p<< Ah, nonsense. If they'd split after two albums they'd be rightly hailed as a classic post-punk band. But then they signed to Jive, resulting in a particularly risible stab at poptastic fame. But don't tell me that Total War and Independence Day aren't totally seminal 79/80 post-punk singles. And don't get me started on how good Sleep No More is as an album. Big dark nasty thing... THankfully a minimum of Eric Clapton - I think they've already had Clapton Night. Apparently there is a Factory BBC4 doc in the works - so we can but hope... though apart from New Order there's not a lot in the BBC can.
