Scroll down the page for the following Wire download. Wire Live at Palais de Congres, Montreux, 9 March 1979 Here's more dusty stuff from the cassette days. Those of you who remember my Jukebox Shuffle Series - a sonic documentary on post-punk 1975-1985 - must have noticed I was a dedicated Wire fan. Without doubt, they were the best the era had to offer. I still get the shivers when I think of Pink Flag (1977), Chairs Missing (1978) and 154 (1979) - an amazing artistic achievement. The albums also reflect my own development in music and musical taste: Pink Flag was better than anything punk rock could think of - and after 154 anything was possible. It moved me beyond traditional pop and rock. 154 was one of the best pop albums ever made, however, as a post-modern record, it also hinted at the end of pop music. I bought this Montreux-tape in London at Portobello Road in the summer of 1979. It's a splendid 1979 show with Wire playing Chairs Missing & 154 songs. In Montreux they were support act to Roxy Music - at the end, during their performance of Heart Beat, you can hear the crowd screaming for Roxy Music (this track is also featured on their 1979 farewell album Document & Eyewitness). Anyway, if you have any sense of history, you'll probably dig it. The sound quality is a bit poor. I lost my own tape long ago, but borrowed a copied copy from my brother, who once added a playlist to the tape (see picture). I've seen Wire perform twice at the Paradiso in Amsterdam - first in 1978 and later in 1985 when they celebrated their "come back". They were a "difficult" live band with non-performance performances. It was all about form and content. About art. http://siebethissen.blogspot.com/index.html Unfortunately it ends rather abruptly mid-track (well mine does!), but I'd say it's well worth hearing if you haven't already. The sound quality is better than the author leads us to believe. The GO4 and Sonic Youth amongst others are there, too, though not d/l them myself yet.
