And for this reason i've always struggled to get why Sextet is held up as their definitive classic as her atonal moaning I find really detracts from the music (reaching its nadir on Rialto). If Simon had sung instead they would have completely nailed that ubercool juxtaposition of Joy Division industrial doom and 80s New York electro/funk that lots of other bands have made a small fortune out of aping in the last couple of years (stand up The Rapture and LCD Soundsystem) > > Like the last three albums then! > > Really annoying thing is most of the elements of good ACR are still > there - Moscrop's guitar FX, Donald's drums etc, and they play great > versions of DO the Du/Flight/And then again, etc. ut the songwriting is > just too trad soul/funk/r&b influenced these days.... Theres a couple of tracks on the bootleg of this where they've thrown in some of the beats from the old records (literally!) to try and give it a feel of the early stuff but alas the melodies are wafer thin, the basslines and riffs are straight of the Funk 1 & Jazz Funk #3 setting off the Casio SA-5 and it all sounds a bit 1993.
