I think they have some great ideas and with practice could be very good indeed. http://www.thesealedcupboardsociety.com/ Is Pete Docherty trying to be the New Johnny Thunders? Music and Drug intake wise I think he lags way behind. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2007 13:02:02 +0100 From: "Bart van Damme" Subject: [idealcopy] fuck marcel duchamp would've loved this one!! http://www.fuckthiswebsite.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2007 13:41:42 +0000 (GMT) From: PAUL RABJOHN Subject: [idealcopy] book of the month en route to the kids book section in my local library on satuday , i happened upon an excellent tome which some of you may have missed. yes , i am referring to a recent autobiography by jeff "stinky" turner of the cockney rejects (in collaboration with esteemed post-punk writer garry bushell). one might have thought such a pairing would need no further embellishment , but they clearly felt the icing on the cake would be a foreword from an esteemed literary figure. it must have been hard to imagine who would have stepped up to the plate for this tale of young working class lads , stripped to the waist in sweaty punk venues around the UK , enjoying a mutual love of football , violence and even occasionally some music. apparently melvyn bragg and nick hornby were both desperate for the gig , but true class showed in the end and you'll be glad to hear morrisey saw off all comers. great work! (and if any of you are cynical about what stinky might have thought of stephen p , he graciously thanks him in the credits for "getting right behind us". i don't think you can say fairer than that) the book is like a real-life version of a richard allen/stewart home novel , the Rejects were quite a bunch of , er , "characters". and moz's intro is of course quite something. he always seems a bit short of collaborators of late , could be a good idea for a new direction in here somewhere ;-) p ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2007 21:06:01 +0000 (GMT) From: Fergus Kelly Subject: [idealcopy] Uncertain Ratio ACR are playing here this coming weekend, and I'm just wondering if anyone has seen them lately - are they worth the effort... I know they're a few short of the original line up.. are they playing much of the old material ? And if not, is the newer material up to the same standard ? I last saw them (wait for it) 25 years ago... ! We saw ACR at Cargo a year or so ago, and they were on excellent form - they play lots of the Factory era stuff, and their new material (of which they apparently have pretty much an album worth unrecorded) is a real return to form. I9d quite forgotten about this - was thinking about going over to Dublin for it but haven9t got round to organising it ...
