["Mileta Okiljevic" Subject: [idealcopy] OT Chemikal Underground Launches 'Ballads Of The Book' Mini-Site... Chemikal Underground Launches 'Ballads Of The Book' Mini-Site... Yes indeed, to coincide with the release of our landmark (and dare we say, pioneering) album 'Ballads Of The Book', we've got together with our friends at Small Oranges to construct another rather fabulous mini-site for you to explore. For those of you who are unaware of the project (and let's face it, it's our job to keep you abreast of such things), 'Ballads Of The Book' is an ambitious and groundbreaking album of collaborations between some of Scotland's most prominent writers and musicians. The brainchild of Idlewild's Roddy Woomble, 'Ballads Of The Book' is an 18-track album featuring exciting partnerships between the likes of Aidan Moffat & Ian Rankin; Emma Pollock & Louise Welsh; Sons And Daughters and A.L. Kennedy; Aereogramme & Hal Duncan; Idlewild & Edwin Morgan; Alasdair Roberts & Robin Robertson; King Creosote & Laura Hird and a host of other talent to drool over... With an original album cover design by Alasdair Gray, supplemented by a lavish 32 page booklet (designed by Arab Strap's Aidan Moffat) 'Ballads Of The Book' is much more than a compilation album: its a snapshot of Scottish literary and musical culture. From Whitbread Novelists Of the Year (Ali Smith) to TS Eliot Award Shortlists (Robin Robertson) via the UK's #1 best selling crime writer (Ian Rankin); from folk legends Mike Heron (Incredible String Band) and Vashti Bunyan through to new Scottish talent like Foxface and Strike Colours; featuring first outings for established artists in new incarnations (ex-Delgado Alun Woodward as 'Lord Cut-Glass; Aidan Moffat And The Best Ofs) and original material from the likes of James Yorkston, Trashcan Sinatras, Karine Polwart and Malcolm Middleton, the album is full of surprising match-ups with assuredly elegant results. It's probably best for us not to witter on about the damn thing though and point you in the direction of the mini-site where you can slake your thirst for information: peruse info on each artist and writer, listen to each track, view documentary footage, explore links for all the writers' and musicians' work via Amazon or indeed, purchase the glorious beast on Amazon or Chemikal Underground's own shop before emailing the mini-site link to unsuspecting friends... It's as close as we could get to having an interactive album online so please, check it out... http://www.chemikal.co.uk/ballads The documentary footage on the site is taken from a film showing on STV on March 1st at 11.30pm. If this email arrives too late for those of you who may have wanted to watch it - we apologise, time simply ran away from us. We'll keep you posted on any planned reruns. Please take a note too, for those of you in the Glasgow area that we will be throwing another (FREE) bash at the CCA celebrating the album's release. Starting at 9pm there will be live performances from De Rosa, Trashcan Sinatras and a live debut for Alun Woodward's new musical project Lord Cut-Glass. The documentary will also be getting shown at regular intervals in the CCA's auditorium so come along, have a drink and bask in the glory of how cool you are simply by being there... BALLADS OF THE BOOK RELEASE DATES: UK & EUROPE 5th MARCH - NORTH AMERICA 3rd APRIL OTHER NEWS Sister Vanilla 'Little Pop Rock' The family affair of Linda, Jim and William reid gathers pace as we head towards the release date of their thrilling album. The public's affection for the recorded output of Jim and William as the Jesus And Mary Chain has no doubt been rekindled following the news that they are to perform at this year's Coachella Festival in California (April 27th) as well the Summercase Festival in Spain (13th & 14th July), so the fact that the Sister Vanilla album sounds so fresh and vital can only stoke the flames further. Not just a JAMC offshoot, the triumph of 'Little Pop Rock' is as much of a testament to the vocals of Linda as it is to the musical elan of her siblings: for every track that recalls the jagged glory of the Mary Chain (Delicat), there are tracks that celebrate the rush of pure, bubblegum-pop (The Two Of Us featuring Linda and Stephen Pastel). The swaggering gallop of 'What Goes Around' and the laid-back anthem of 'Can't Stop The Rock' make up the first (extremely limited 7" vi nyl) single off the album so be sure to check out the chemikal shop and pre-order yourself a copy before they're all gone (limited to 2 copies per purchase). We'll be putting together a mini-site for Sister Vanilla also (once we've caught our breath after finishing the one for 'Ballads') so keep your eyes peeled for more info... Sister Vanilla have a website which will be getting updated over the next few days...
