A threepiece (so perhaps more of a Wirspace) comprising vocalist, guitarist and keyboard/drum samples, the singer has a Newmanesque vocal and they perform like a band who have actually heard and taken on board the reasons why Wire are THAT good. By the third song they're veering off into Buzzcocks territory and they never really revisit the Wire sound but they're damn fine throughout, ending with a cracking song called 'Valentine' which is possibly a few weeks away from being a #1 smash. They're playing again in London on 27 Feb and 1 Mar and I suspect I could well be back for more. One of those nights when some unknown bands in the back of a pub step up to the mark and it makes you wonder why you bother going out anywhere else.
