Best of 2006 Please! [Tim ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 10:19:18 +0000 (GMT) From: Fergus Kelly Subject: [idealcopy] Gang of 3+ Well, double celebration last Sunday, what with the death of Pinochet and the arrival of the Gang Of Four - - finally - to Dublin for the first time. Good fucking riddance to the former and warm welcome to the latter. Do they rock HARD or WHAT... it was hugely enjoyable, even if some of the songs felt a bit ropey, with Andy's riffs a bit strangulated, but they more than made up for it with their enthusiasm and energy. Jon can only be described as a man possessed. The line "I'm so restless" seems very fitting here, as he constantly prowls like a caged animal. It feels like he might explode any minute. He sure vents his anger on that microwave, shards of which whacked me in the face as I was snapping away.. that crab hop 'dance'he does is quite, em, disconcerting to watch. At one stage he actually crawled at speed across the stage.. at another he sprinted on the spot... he never lets up. Even more amazing when you consider that they played ATP in Bristol the night before and they had to play a second set at 2AM ! (owing to some ticket/venue fuck-up whereby a lot of fans couldn't get in..). Then, into Dublin at 8am, hotel rooms weren't ready till lunchtime, so they sat in the bar and got pissed, slept for the afternoon, got up at 7pm for the gig... Hugo has had to quit, sadly, owing to weight and arthritic problems - he just can't hack the tour schedule. He played Bristol the night before, but that was it. On a happier note, the band are working on new material, which is what I really want to hear. The old stuff is great of course, but you can't flog it forever. They hit the scene at the onset of Thatcherism, and all the attendant shit there was to be angry about - media, politics, consumerism. 27 years on, God knows, ther's still more than enough to be angry about.. very interested to hear their take on the culture now... http://www.flickr.com/photos/55867717@N00/sets/72157594417537453/ Fergus http://www.roomtemperature.org http://www.asullenrelapse.blogspot.com http://www.myspace.com/ferguskellyrecordings http://www.flickr.com/photos/55867717@N00/sets/ Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2006 13:32:48 -0500 From: eric@thinkterrain.com Subject: RE: RE: [idealcopy] OT - OMD I'll be at the Liverpool and London shows.
