Abso-bloody-lutely! Blimey... how low can you go... Below is an email I recieved asking us to appear on Never Mind The Buzzcocks (a music quiz show aired in the UK). Each week they have two teams that include 2 guests (who, nowadays, they are sometimes struggling to get people you have heard of so end up with the drummer from some new band that you may or may not have heard of). In the show they have a humiliating parade of people that get the piss taken out of them by the teams as they try and work out which one of the parade of people was in some (normally) second rate - one hit wonder band that doesn't exist anymore. A researcher wrote to us asking if we wanted to be in the parade - "Dear Blockheads, I'm booking I.D parade guests for the new series of 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks', and wondered if any of 'The Blockheads' would be interested in coming on? I know Phil and Bill have always wanted the Blockheads to come on, so it would be great if one of you fancied an evening out, and #500 cash in hand. I look forward to hearing from you" Get knotted! We are effing contemporary. National papers write about us. We appear in worldwide magazine publications giving our top ten for the month. You can find us waxing effing lyrical on TV and radio The Blockheads are an effing national institution and a bunch of musicians that are highly rated and known by most musicians even if I say so myself. That's why I love them and work for/with them and bloody play with them when needed. I won't embarrass the gentleman who wrote this to us by naming him but he should perhaps have checked out who we actually are before lumping us in with the likes of Smokey, Double, Alphaville, Hayzi Fantayzee, Joe Dolce and whatever other stuff would fit in with it... Does he honestly think that our mate who comes to sing with us every now and then and is a captain of one of the teams is going to be happy watching us in the parade whilst some unknown boy band member, or similar, takes the piss out of one of us because he is too unmusical to know who the hell we are (like the guy who asked us on). I don't think so. He doesn't even know how to spell Phill's name. Some researcher... Twat. Neil Aspinall might not like to admit it but I doubt this would this have happened without the Dangermouse thing. Anyway its actually rather good, especially the meld of Within Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows. Its got some quite noisy and druggy moments considering its for a las vegas show...esp the breakdown from Mr Kite into 'I Want You' and 'Helter Skelter'. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Nov 2006 01:24:09 +0000 From: Tim Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Reasons not to be cheerful Nice one Blockheads! I have to say I don't remember anyone as famous as Smokey or Joe Dolce ever being in the ID parade though! Its usually the bloke who pretended to scratch the decks on some dodgy german techno hit on TOTP in 1997 or the bass player from Kingmaker. I like Phil(l) Jupitus and Bill Bailey but Never Mind the Buzzcocks was running out of steam about 6 series ago and now reached a new low presented by some sub-Russel Brand wannabe prick off kids TV doing a really bad Mark Lamar impression. I'm sure Mr Jupitus (also currently standing in for Viv Stanshall with the Bonzos ) will be none too impressed. Indeed Dead Cities is one of my favourite albums I've bought in recent years - I've previously described it as sounding like Sigur Ros with cheesy synths. Gone is beautiful - my favourite on the album. K. NP Smog - a river ain't too much to love ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V9 #287 *******************************
