Very interesting. My only prior contact was via the Fall cover versions. It starts out with a clip from an appearance on German TV. Given the time, it was astonishing. Extremely raw and brutal. It didn't all live up to that early extract, but it was still a worthwhile 90 minutes. Unfortunately I couldn'y hang around for the Q&A with the director as I had a pretty packed schedule I also caught a documentary on the Beijing underground music scene called Beijing Bubbles. Most of the music wasn't particularly inspiring, although one outfit called Hang On The Box seemed not without merit. Nonetheless, very interesting; one of the filmmakers said how honoured she was to be in Leeds, 'home of the Sisters of Mercy' - bless! And still on the musical theme, I saw Divided States of America - about Laibach's 2004 tour of the USA. I'm not overly familiar with Laibach and their philosophy, but again, worthwhile, not least for the pre-gig speech delivered to the audience by a middle aged man in a suit which absolutely tore into the USA in a heavily accented deadpan baritone drawl. as for the rest of the festival, a French psychological thriller called 'Them' was good nerve shredding value; and I saw for the first time at the cinema, somebody actually pass out whilst trying to make a hasty exit - this during the first ten minutes of an appallingly brutal horror film called Broken. Also enjoyed the new Jan Svankmajer film Lunacy, and a few shorts, including 'Nightmares' from Finland, 'Natural History' from France and 'Oculus - The Man With The Plan' from USA. Fans of the horror genre (I know there are a few here) - beware a Fench film called 'Resonances' - it's utter garbage ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Nov 2006 21:39:56 EST From: Eardrumbuz@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Check out the cute poster...
