Harvest trilogy on vinyl >>I actually have two functioning 8 track players. I need them for my quad 8 tracks! Anyone know where I can find some Wire on 8t?<< Knew there'd be one! Pink Flag definitely exists on 8-track - one went on Ebay for quite a lot of money a few years ago. The US 8-track market survived for quite a long time - certainly into the mid-80s. Though I suspect latter production was mainly good ol' country stuff for rednecks in dilapidated pick-up trucks.... Wire must be one of very few bands to have released new albums on 8-track (PF) and DAT formats (Ideal Copy) Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 12:30:57 -0500 From: "David McKenzie" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Here it is... again... Admittedly it was about about new sludge metal bands or whatever they're called, but he's always an entertaining read. Anyway...there in the same paper was an article I'd missed at the time, and which I don't *think* was mentioned here - Readers Recommend Short Songs. Needless to say, Wire get a mention here... "..a good short song isn't a gimmick. It just doesn't waste any time. It's a test of discipline and songwriting craft. It's also a kind of prison. Ambitious songwriters need space. Even Wire and the Minutemen, champions of breveity, couldn't stay hemmed in forever". Later on... "Art-school punks Wire scorned needless repetition. "It was a process of elimination", explained singer Colin Newman. Their Pink Flag album contained 21 punk haikus. Field Day For The Sundays is the briefest. A brisk attack on life-wrecking tabloid exposes in 28 seconds." Incidentally Field Day was no. 3 in that weeks playlist behind Our Prayer by The Beach Boys and Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran.
