Dave Davies had a stroke. From what I remember, it's left him partially paralyzed, and unfortunately, I think that's ended the possibility of a reunion. Happily seems much better - go to _www.davedavies.com_ (http://www.davedavies.com) He's making a solo album, got a myspace page etc. So I don't think his health is necessarily an obstacle. Enjoyable enough, though I didn't have to fork out 25 of your english pounds be there! I could give my thoughts on seeing the Who in the '80s and 2004, not to mention Sir Paul in 2005, but it will have to wait... Well, if I remember correctly, at the time (1999) everyone thought the reformed Wire will play a very electronic oriented set. I remember the first review of the first gig (Scotland?), where whoever it was said that "they rocked", which was quite a surprise, music-wise of course. I remember that the RFH gig was the first indication for me that guitar music was back to sounding contemporary after years of oscillators and drum machines. No one thought or even dared hoping that the reformed Wire would reconstruct their late 70's sound. While I agree that the internet does change the way artists can find out what their fans think, in the Wire sense our opinions hardly mattered as far as future strategy was concerned. If Ray Davies has internet access he has no excuse! Maybe there are lots of Davies fans whose greatest wish is to hear him rap, or Culture Club fans that can't stand Boy George. Unlikely as these sound, I still can't see where fan's opinions are any better than the artists' themselves. Only as far as marketing is concerned, an artist should consider what fans think about his new style. As far as knowing what the next best thing is or what's wrong or right, they're not better (or worse) than him. Besides, you don't need internet access or any access to fan's opinions to know that Ray Davies rapping is a bad bad bad idea. But regardless of that, i would still bow and kiss his shoes if I meet him on the street. cheers giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Oct 2006 15:51:23 +0100 From: Andrew Walkingshaw Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Re: old rockers are better nowadays cos of the In ternet On Tue, Oct 10, 2006 at 01:15:19PM +0100, Clements, Bruno - BUP wrote: > I could give my thoughts on seeing the Who in the '80s and 2004, not to > mention Sir Paul in 2005, but it will have to wait... I hugely enjoyed the whole thing, light show, extended "jam" at end of a couple of tracks, the live drums, etc. I didn't get any pictures, but I was standing roughly ten feet from the stage between Mira and Helen. I'll be seeing Ladytron every time they visit Atlanta again from this point on. (The show from a couple weeks back was Ladytron's first Atlanta gig.)
