I'll have to try the original again some time - saw it years ago and liked the ending but have the feeling I wasn't at all convinced by some of the performances. It seemed a bit 'stagey', I think. I thought that I was the only person on Earth who enjoyed Dead Birds. For a direct-to-DVD release, this one really packs a solid punch. A week or so ago, I rented Dog Soldiers (Neil Marshall's previous movie to The Descent). It's another wildly fun horror movie that I got a kick out of. I enjoyed The Descent so much partly because of the caving expedition story, as I spend so much time hiking and doing outdoor things myself. The same reason why, during The Hills Have Eyes remake in a crowded theater, everyone else was shielding their eyes from all of the gore, but I was thinking to myself..."Wow...I really need to go hiking in New Mexico one day." The claustrophobic caving footage in The Descent is quite superb; part of me thinks that it might have been an even better movie without the "crawlers" in the last half. I'm broke several times over right now, though, as I went to the store yesterday and bought the newly restored Criterion Collection three-disc edition of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai (I own all of the Akira Kurosawa Criterion DVD's.). I also purchased the new DVD with the original Japanese version of Gojira (Godzilla)....it's about damn time that Gojira was released on DVD. I saw the Japanese original in an indie theater a couple years back and was highly impressed at what a serious and superior film the original is to the American-Raymond-Burr-inserted-footage version. Hi everyone! Sorry - just catching up here by looking thru the archives. It seems that messages that were sent by the list owner were being snuffed by Hotmail's new spam filter. I had to manually add the list owner to the safe list. (Missed the whole "King of the Murgos" controversy. That was hilarious. ^_^) So - a quick note about the Lonely Is An Eyesore video. Yes - all of the songs except for a DCD song were commissioned especially for the Lonely Is An Eyesore project, but one track - Throwing Muses' "Fish" - was different on the video than on the album. It was performed "live"-ish for the video - the album had a more polished studio version. (I have the original VHS [US edition] on tape somewhere. And the deluxe vinyl too. ^_^) Cheers, Paul - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy Lumbard" To: Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2006 11:32 PM Subject: RE: [idealcopy] O.T: Spitting Image anyone? > Ari wrote > "With the exception of one Dead Can Dance song, all > these tracks were > written and recorded exclusively for this compilation, > and only exist > here or on the corresponding Lonely Is An Eyesore CD." > > ...or on the original vinyl in my loft.
