They played a free warm-up for Saturday's gig at the Kings Arms pub in Buckingham, not a particularly well known venue. But, as the only non-original member, the drummer, lives locally, I guess that's how it came about. They played for over an hour, and were on absolute top form, exactly as I remembered back in '79. The playing was incredibly tight with highlights being Thunder & Lightning, What A Way To End It All and I Want To Be Your Boy. The cheeky scouse banter was still there from 'Enrico', and all looked well, and seemed to have aged better than some of the audience, myself not included. Suggs was there, and may have swelled the size of the crowd who thought they might see a free Madness gig, but didn't play. Kevin Rowland didn't show. If there is a tour they are a 'must go'..for those of a certain age! Can someone please explain the madness/dexy's connection?<< Bette Bright is Mrs Suggs. As for Dexy's, I presume it refers to producer Clive Langer who was in Deaf School and produced, among other things, Dexy's albums.
