The Eno/Byrne remaster is quite excellent, though, as far as sound quality, liner notes, outtakes, the whole package. Having not bought the album back in the day, it probably doesn't resonate with me as much as it would with people who discovered it at the time of release back then, but it's still moving in its own offbeat way. Oddly enough, my first exposure to the Eno/Byrne stuff was by watching the film, Wall Street (still my favorite Oliver Stone flick). I'm really taken with every track on this one. Can't explain why, really...it's just got the right combination of Mogwai loudness and off-the-wall experimentation in general. Back in March, I saw Mogwai play an incredibly small venue (I was one of a hundred or so people) at Whirlyball Atlanta. It was my fourth time seeing Mogwai in concert and, mostly due to the circumstances of the venue, etc., probably the best. At their most volume-enhanced moments...quite like a hundred people standing in front of a jet turbine with our clothes flapping. Finally The Slits arrived in Dublin last night and frankly, it was a disapointment. Very late by the time they took the stage, so it was a rather short set, as the venue's policy on finish times is infuriatingly strict. Very little of the old material - about 3 numbers if I rmemeber rightly, one of which (Shoplifting) was repeated in the single song encore. The new material wasn't bad but just didn't grab me. No sign of Viv Albertine. Tessa sat plying her bass on a low stool, looking like a washerwoman out of place. A young drummer, two guitarists and a 'vocalist' (she screamed a bit and grinned a lot), these women were young enough to have been born after The Slits were originally around. Then there was Ari Up, hogging the limelight. Encouraging everyone to scream and jump up and down, be 'dubby and punky', like it was a kids birthday party. Constantly going on about being thrilled to be finally playing Ireland 25 years later, and various other platitudes about the country, stopping at one point to talk about 'her Sex Pistols step dad playing Irish folk records when she was little' (leave it out will ye!), giving out about being sex starved, saying how 'hot' she felt (cue pouring bottled water down her crotch)... shut up and play ! You could easily have fit another song into the set if she had done.. 'Do a runner !' Yeah, I shoud have. He was one of the most famous Dutch contemporary art painters. In 1948 he founded with painters from Bruxelles, Copenhagen and Amsterdam the COBRA group. In the Netherlands he didnt get much positive response during the 50s despite international good reviews. Lot of work made by him is made of thick layers of paint in clear colours. They had a kind of life shining radiation. But he often said "Ik rotzooi maar wat aan". I just rubbish something I do remind the tv-series beauty and consolation where in an interview with him. After a walk through a city b.e. he tried to catch the light of that city. And started painting. After more then 6 hours or so he finished his paintings by thinking. Thats funny I guess. j - --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1"/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Yahoo!
