If the physical discomfort weren't enough, it's a quite fantastically challenging piece of text to recite even without those restrictions. I was fortunate enough to see it performed in London not very long ago: truly mesmerising, even by Beckett's standards. My only reservation about it, really, is that the staging sometimes distracts people from the writing; it's often dismissed as meaningless gabbling, whereas my experience is that it reveals fresh angles, nuances and details every time. For anyone who's partial, there's some splendid stuff going on at the Barbican right now: http://www.barbican.org.uk/beckett. I'd particularly recommend the prose and poetry readings; a real treasure trove. Reviews are on my blog: http://circlewagons.blogspot.com/ Cheers, ig. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Apr 2006 18:15:22 +0200 From: "Mileta Okiljevic" Subject: [idealcopy] OT-Gary Heffern from walkabouts list, maybe few of you will find this interesting.. np-scott walker/cossacks are.. - ----- Original Message ----- From: GHeffern@aol.com To: walkabouts@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, April 14, 2006 18:10 Subject: Re: [walkabouts] hello folks! hello, gary heffern here...a couple of things, first, I am moving to finland at the end of the month you could say that I'm tired of this damned government, and ready for a change...I just finished a new album and got it in my hands on sunday night...it's a name dropping frenzy with chris and carla, mark lannegan, steve berlin (los lobos), jim roth (built to spill) anne-marie ruljancich, alejandro escovedo, peter case, and scott mccaughey (minus 5, rem)...anyway, I don't have time to deal with getting a label to put it out or artwork etc, so I'm selling a limited amount of these handsigned and numbered...also there will be a show at the tractor tavern in seattle next wednesday night with carla, some mudhoney boys, some motherloveboners, the royal pains etc etc to help me move...anyway, here's the link if you'd like one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4865667596 peace to you and peace on earth. heff (gary heffern) - ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- - --- YAHOO!
