Just pecking this out a few minutes after buying (for the 3rd or 4th time) a new copy of 'our lad's' magnum opus "Chairs Missing", this time the so-new-you-can-smell-the-paint remastered version thereof, resplendant in its shrink-wrapped gatefolded, digipacked finery...... Unfortunately, I haven't got my Discman with me, so I can't offer any comment about any improvements in the clarity of the sound just now, but I'll report my impressions in due course. I don't recall seeing any comments from anyone else here about the re-re-release:- has anyone gone out and got it? I realise most of you probably already own at least one vinyl copy and the CD re-issue with bonus tracks, so might be forgiven for not forking out yet again:- in fact, I might have given it a miss myself, had it not been for the unfortunate label-side blemish that prevents "French Film Blurred" from playing without hanging halfway through......but if anyone has bought one, what do you think of the remastering? Has it added any 'zing' to your ears? One thing I'm not sure about, though, is the decision to leave off the bonus tracks for this re-release, thus going counter to the norm. I'm pretty sure that the trade-off between amount of content / volume of pressing that applied to vinyl doesn't apply here, so why? I know the received wisdom from EMI (or the band) is that "it places the works in it's original [artistic context], but that's easily achieved anyhow, by way of the 'stop' control, if that's what you want? Perhaps I can be optimistic and hope that someone is trying to contractually arrange for all the best 'bonus tracks' / singles / B-sides, including stuff from both the EMI and Mute eras to pop up on ONE SINGLE compilation.............then again, Perhaps not. :-( - --------------------------------- New Yahoo! Has it added any 'zing' to your ears? Well, I'm waiting for the box - no point at all in buying these reissues on their own.... I noted their presence in HMV yesterday. They're...OK - standard fold-out digipack (rather than 'vinyl replica', which would be nicer. The printing's not brilliant though - the back cover of Pink Flag was very badly aligned. And there's a nasty "digital remaster" strip printed on them by the spine (to counter the fact that a CD digipack isn't actually square). I'm not that much of a stamp collector to want this edition - I'll just buy teh box direct from PE ...
