I attended a Fall gig here in Atlanta a couple of years ago and have spent quite a bit on recent reissues and first-time album purchases. To give credit, many people here on this Wire list have been a great help with recommendations for me about which Fall albums to purchase, etc., so much of my Fall fandom is thanks to y'all. The recent 6-disc Fall Peel Sessions compilation box set is a marvel, indeed. It's also worth noting that the fact that my old CD player wouldn't read the limited edition black disc of Fall Heads Roll was the last straw that made me (finally) buy a new 5-disc changer for my stereo a few months ago. A true one-off. I found his rich Scots deadpan brogue and his absurdist observations a joy, much to the chagrin of several friends who didn't 'get' him who've had to put up with my attempts to 'convert' them. As it happens, "Go and sit upon the grass" was the first thing I heard by him, [on some Virgin Records sampler called 'V' IIRC] in 1974, followed by numerous Peel sessions which always meant it was worth taping that night.......... Que? Perhaps explained by the following statement: "Jeff Apter is an Australian-based music writer, who has been reporting on popular culture for the past 15 years." So he was close to the action in 1979. Looks like the sort of cash-in book that usually comes out after someone's died. Fat Bob's autobiog will probably be worth a read, if he ever writes one. That'll probably after he stops doing the Cure, which will be never. M agreed, if you think about it uncle Robert 'was' going through a period of depression at this time, the album itself strongly (more than) hints on this, I'm thinking that must have gotten through to the other members, which in turn would've/could've got robert thinking why the fuck am I carrying on: even though we didn't get to read about it (?) as for his biography, can't wait (well I can.......)
