The current Sister Ray new releases list I got in my inbox last week states that they are two disc sets, so presumably there are plenty of extras... but what? With 'Behind the Curtain' long since deleted, perhaps it is the recordings from that, relevant to each period added on the second disk in each case? I'm just speculating. Any thoughts? If there's any sound improvement, sign me up. Now that the next batch of Deluxe Edition reissues from The Cure (The Top, The Head On The Door, Kiss Me X 3, The Glove's Blue Sunshine) have fallen curse to the Cure Delayed Release Syndrome and won't be out until at least July, there's no reason for me not to fork out money for the Wire reissues if the remastered sound is right. I think Fergus's estimation of the target audience is probably correct. There's a fair bit of a drip-drip-drip type coverage of Wire in the press of late and I suspect there are truckloads of serious young adolescents still keen to investigate these exotic and influential bands that keep getting name-checked . It's a good time for Wire, just a shame they don't seem to be collectively active in any serious manner. By the way, in the recent Newman interviews cited here, Wire have been spoken of almost as a still-going concern, whereas in the recentish 'Bruce is bored (and not in the best of health)' controversy it seemed as if that was that. Is it just a simple case of never say never, or has a cessation been downgraded to a hiatus? Anybody in the know? Ian B PS - just picked up 3 CD Minimal Compact 'Returning Wheel' for a fiver. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2006 01:11:47 +0200 From: giluz Subject: Re: [idealcopy] reissued again On 2/20/06, Ian B wrote: > PS - just picked up 3 CD Minimal Compact 'Returning Wheel' for a fiver. > Good one! The 1st CD , the... er... hits? is excellent, though lacking 2-3 tracks at least. I really liked the Upstairs CD containing outtakes of stuff most of which was recorded in the flat all Israeli band members used to live in and shows the more electronic/experimental side of the band. To the remixes CD I didn't take. Somehow it sounded more anachronistic than the Minimal stuff. btw Israel's biggest forthcoming alternative music event is the release of the new Fortis & Sakharof (minimal's guitarists) album in March. cheers giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2006 23:22:38 -0000 From: "Scott Kellock" Subject: [idealcopy] Wire re-issues The link to Colin Newman interview in Independent can be found on http://www.worldwidegigguide.com Also clasic punk albums in March listings. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Feb 2006 18:54:31 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] reissued again By the way, in the recent Newman interviews cited here, Wire have been spoken of almost as a still-going concern, whereas in the recentish 'Bruce is bored (and not in the best of health)' controversy it seemed as if that was that. The most recent line, from late last year, was "Bruce has resigned, but his resignation has not been accepted". Certainly no bridges are being burned unnecessarily, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
