It wasn't that bad, and there even were lots of good moments. I missed the femme fatale fiasco in the toilettes, so I can't comment on that. The Venus In Furs cover was quite worth it, and the new songs are indeed quite boring. Still, it was better than the rainy season gigs I've seen (well, better than one of them - the other one, when he was accompanied by a string quartet was great), and if only for the fact that most Israelis expected Cale to sing ballads, which he didn't, I liked it (some Israeli dj's made cale an Israeli superstar because of them, and the result is that people here think of him as a ballad person - ha). Not a great gig but still good, and still 'respectable'. I don't expect much from 60-something rockers, even if they've been in the Velvets. Talk to me in 10 years time after seeing a Wire and a Fall gig and I would probably change my mind. cheers giluz On 1/29/06, David McKenzie wrote: > > > As for the 'np', I made the mistake of going to see John Cale last > > Tuesday...as did Mr Rowland. He did 3-4 gigs in TA and was so wasted now he couldn't even remember it, but the sheer frantic hysterical intensity of the music and his stage presence were amazing - you could hear that he was literally screaming from the abyss. Young age and geographical misplacement prevented me from seeing anything before that, but Sabotage and earlier gigs I heard sound even more intense. cheers giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2006 19:17:05 +0100 From: "Mileta Okiljevic" Subject: [idealcopy] Fw: cult of the week - Ted Milton cult of the week - Ted Milton - ----- Original Message ----- From: Erik Stein To: cwnn list Sent: Sunday, January 29, 2006 15:58 Subject: cult of the week - Ted Milton visit http://www.cultwithnoname.com for this week's cult of the week, 'Ode: O, to be seen through your eyes!' by Ted Milton. leave comments on the review/ generally in our guestbook at http://www.sunshineguestbooks.com/php?id=hisskiss or visit our new page on myspace at http://www.myspace.com/cwnn - --------------------------------------------------- the next cwnn gig will be at the Pool Bar, Curtain Road, Old Street on tuesday 7th February. the gig is part of Multi-Vitamins record's cool weekly showcase of minimal bass, glitch and other genres of electronica that we know absolutely nothing about. entry is FREE. for info please visit our homepage. exciting news to come. we always say that...but it IS true. save all your kisses for me... cwnn. - ---------------------------------------------------- http://www.cultwithnoname.com http://www.myspace.com/cwnn - ---------------------------------------------------- to unsubscribe, email unsubscribe@cultwithnoname.com and you will be removed right away. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2006 17:38:59 -0000 From: "Keith A" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] ot: was fisherspooners - Cale = Dire Straits > > Solo performances are often hit or miss propositions I've seen Julian Cope on his todd a few times now. The last two have been excellent, and not just because of the banter. Most of his stuff works well in that format. And there's still an element of 'performance' about it. I was less keen on the Lloyd Cole solo gig I saw though. He played well, sang well, and had a nice line of banter himself, but overall, there was something a little too pipe and slippers about the whole thing. Saw Rob Dickinson (ex-Catherine Wheel) on the 19th. I was expecting a band, but his gear was stolen in Portland, OR the night before, so it was just him and an acoustic guitar. He had purchased the acoustic that afternoon, so he was still getting used to it. He played a number of songs from his new solo album and a few Catherine Wheel classics. It was very interesting to hear them - especially the Catherine Wheel songs - stripped down like that. I actually prefer the acoustic versions of a couple of his solo songs - there's an immediacy to them that gets lost with the full band workout on the solo album. He did an instore appearance at Easy Street Records before the main show. It was *very* live - he was still getting the new guitar to stay in-tune - but it was worth leaving work early to catch. He hung around after the appearance, and chatted with people. The show was at the Crocodile Cafe. By that point in the evening, the guitar had settled down, and his voice was fully warmed up. He put on a great show - a very passionate performance. The audience was drunk, but very, very friendly. It really helped Rob get around the previous night's loss of equipement, and he put on a strong show because of it. I've got a few photos and a couple of video clips from my cell phone. Don't expect miracles, but you're welcome to look at them. http://digicharat.weasel-bot.com/~paulp/rob/ Pictures 10-12 are from the in-store, 13-15 are from the concert. Clip 4 is from the instore, clip 5 is from the concert. Cheers, Paul P.S. Upcoming concerts? My wife and I are going to see Dave Brubeck (yay!) Other definite shows are Belle & Sebastian (gulp) and The Sisters Of Mercy (double gulp). As you may have guessed, some of these shows were suggested by my wife. ^_^ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jan 2006 23:20:31 -0000 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Jesus sings Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now I'm a big fan of the production team's Flashmob Operas (operas performed live in front of the puzzled public at - to date - Paddington Station and The Gateshead Metro Shopping Centre) so I see no reason not to look forward to this despite some of the performers.
