The long-awaited new album - called "The Drift" - will be Scott's first since the ground- breaking "Tilt" was released in 1995. 4AD will release the album worldwide in May. The exact date will be announced shortly. A documentary film about Scott's music - including the making of "The Drift" - is being made by the New York-based director Stephen Kijak. Titled "30 Century Man", it will also be released in 2006. and http://apawboy.blogspot.com/2006/01/yes-yes-its-new-scott-walker.html Yes, yes, it's the new Scott Walker. It's called "The Drift". Ten tracks (last one acoustic just like Tilt and Climate of Hunter). Like Tilt only more so - darker, stranger, further out, further in. Astonishing stuff. Three or four of the tracks (at least) career highlights: so powerful I had to listen to it in two or three track bursts. Tracks two and three actually disabled me for about 45 minutes after (the way "The Electrician" and "Farmer In The City" did when I first heard them, only more so). If you got Tilt, you'll love this. "Haunting" doesn't begin to do justice to its emotional complexity. Inspirational: a 63 year old who makes musicians - artists - a third his age seem like cop outs; and makes 53 or 63 (or 46) seem like a good age to really start living... Worth the wait - and then some. {Out March-ish, I think, on 4AD. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 15:01:13 +0200 From: giluz Subject: [idealcopy] Gogol Bordello They did a short and quite successful British tour not long ago and released their last LP last summer. A combination of Gypsy music with punk. The band's multinational personnel consists of Ukrainians, Israelis and Americans. There's an indirect Wire connection: Both the guitarist and drummer used to play with Fortis & Sakharof (respectively), Minimal Compact's guitarists. The drummer, Rea Mochiach, is a real musical genius (with an ego to match), the kind of person who can play almost any musical instrument. His virtuose drumming is the main force behind GB, and the best reason to check them out. giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 07:19:34 -0800 (PST) From: Jan Noorda Subject: [idealcopy] stop killing whales Just read the news on internet. A whale is drifting up to London. He did find the river Thames already and searches the headquarter of the UK. I hope he has a mission. There must become more protests in to the killing of the biggest creatures on earth. Maybe he is planning a suicide attack. Jumping out of the river on to the japanese, norvegian or icelandic embassy. They have to stop killing whales nfscd Noticed the a new CM Hausswollf is upcoming. Released by raster-noton. I'd *really* like to get a copy of "Cover", which I've tried to track down on it's Virgin CD cat.no from various places without success...................... I know "Flashlight" and his first solo effort had been remastered and re-released, but when last I checked that was all....? Yes. Not got the re-issued one (with bonus tracks I believe), it was a cd i played a lot at the time. I'd not heard it in a long time though, and it's probably fair to say that some works better than others, but it's an interesting release. Keith - --------------------------------- Yahoo! I'll give it another spin at the weekend and post something in light of that. Thus far, though, I'm confirmed in my opinion that the LP section isn't a great listen, and baffling in it's slipshod nature, but the 12" 45rpm DISC is WAY BETTER, and does have *SOME* Interesting stuff on it ........ It really felt like a big declaration that "We have no interest in what we're doing!" Ironically, given the view of it on this list, Manscape is what got me back into Wire because of how jarring and weird it sounded! And interestingly, the recent postings here are actually making me want to give D&E another day in court, as I've not listened to it since the early '80's! The cd of Cover's version of Five Miles of You fades out about a minute and a half early, indicative of the over all abysmal mastering job. Not recommended. The idea of TV being motivated in the least bit by others' opinions or preferences is mistakes at best. No less an authority than legendary BBC host and producer John Peel received an advance copy of the single and played it twice that same night. He then requested that the band do a "Sessions" gig for him and the band was officially on its way. Relentless gigging with The Gang of Four, Echo and the Bunnymen, B52s, Specials, Teardrop Explodes, and U2 put the band on the map worldwide.
