Of course, but there are sets of rules that allow you more freedom and those
that are very strict and not dynamic. Jazz, with its emphasis and pride in
improvisation has one of the stricter ones. I've been studying jazz piano
and actually stopped by the time I had to really start listening to jazz.
Still trying unsuccessfully to get rid of those rich harmonic structures.

And yes - prog rock does suck but not as much - at least they stopped making
prog rock albums, whereas be-bop is still dominant in jazz.

Pisses me off, too.

Been to a couple of Julian Cope acoustic gigs where people yapped and
yapped.

Somone on his forum said talking about the gig was all part of the
experience.

Well fuck off outside and do it then and let those of us who want to listen
to it, hear it!!

Thought it was a Israeli thing - apparently not. Well, there's nothing much
to add to it except for the conclusion that people suck big time in a very
universal way. Having been blessed by quite a tough pair of ears, immune to
various kinds of post-gig audible shocks, the best solution for me is to
stand as close as possible to the biggest monitors.

Another pet hate: Just when they play your favourite song, and you're in a
good place and no-one stands in your way, some idiot decides he has to take
a photograph and chooses to do it in front of you, aiming the camera and
twiddling with the knobs and stuff for minutes till he takes a shot - at
times like these I wish I could at least physically if not emotionally be
violent (I tried threats but somehow they were never convincing - I wonder
why...)

Must fess up to the fact that Messrs Bursa, Rabjohn and I were guilty of
talking during Barbar Luck's support set at Friday's Nightingales gig.
But then he was shite and deliberately announced he would stay on longer
than he should because he felt like it, so frankly he didn't deserve any
attention, esp. as The Nightingales weren't due on until 11pm.

The Nightingales, however, were damn fine - my first experience.  And
the performance of Rob Simmons (ex-Subway Sect), on guitar for The
Fallen Leaves, was formidable.  Stewart Lee's short comedy set also made
one realise that this could work well, more often.
