Are you *sure* this isn't a misprint ? Was it a promotor's ad, or a private ad from a tout (scalper to our US friends) ? I can't believe the cheek of them if it *is* the 'official' price. I saw them in '76, and they were already finished then, largely, and sounded like an ill-rehearsed garage band. Dog Ruff. I won't be joining the queue, that's a cert...... If my local Indie record store (Picadilly Records) is a barometer of taste then 2005 was all about acid-folk, beards, bongos, flutes and violins and hey nonny nonny, (At least they didn't put fucking Babyshambles in their Top 100, I applaud that). but here's whats been on my headphones So, in no particular order (with reasons why....do wish y'all would do that as well): Wire - The Scottish Play Well its a CD as well! The loudest one in this list. Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites Bombastic, swedish wig outs in 8/32.5 time. Teetering on the edge of Prog but with a sense of melody and driving beat that is pure Pop. You can't guess whats going to happen next. The Fall - Peel Sessions Box. What You Need! Sigur Ros - Takk Vast improvement. If there were any justice these would be headlining Glastonbury instead of Clodplop Autolux - Future Perfect MBV filtered through younger, less lazy ears. Autechre - Untilted Still essential listening from the greatest british electronic band, still 6 years ahead of their time. Black Dice - Broken Ear Record Kind of early Cabaret Voltaire meets Antmusic. I don't really understand it but I like it. The second weirdest record on EMI this year. Konono No.1 - Congotronics Bangin' Techno played on a couple of plastic tubs, some bits of metal and some dodgy wiring. Kraftwerk - Minimum Maximum Expert knob twiddling, earth shaking bass, and the way they mash up 'Numbers' is simply sublime. Venetian Snares - (whatever he's released this week) Ideal for scaring off yer acid-folk beardy types. Broadcast - Tender Buttons A real grower. Much more minimal than their other stuff but then half the band have left. Strip back the layers and they are no less arresting. One of our finest, most under-rated bands. OOIOO - Gold and Green An Idealcopy recommendation no less. Thankyou whoever it was! Kate Bush - Aerial Really like this, especially the loony song cycle on disc 2 with Rolf Harris on it. Not a hit single to be found. Uncommercial and idiosyncratic. The weirdest record on EMI this year...yes weirder than Black Dice. The Orb - Okey Dokey its The Orb on Kompakt Low key return to form on trendy Cologne based dance label...and their best in ten years. Would you adam & eve it? Secede - Tryshasla Ah, like the above this reconnects me with my first love - beautiful ambient electronic music. Anyone who was dissapointed with the new Boards of Canada CD should track this down. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Dec 2005 20:13:25 -0600 From: David McKenzie Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Top 2005 heh Green and Gold was actually (I think) a 2003 release 2004 brought Kila Kila Lila and this year's was a 'best of' with the marvelous "open your eyes (you can fry)" flora purim cover from shock city shockers 2 that ssaid any ooioo is good in any year look for a western release of metalchicks in the coming year (if we are lucky) sugar from buffalo daughter with yoshi from ooioo http://tinyurl.com/84bxm ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2005 04:51:41 +0000 (GMT) From: Monochromatic Man Subject: Re: [idealcopy] anotherthe tribute to Alistair. This is a great cd! I saw them in Columbus a few weeks ago and the show was amazing! Very hypnotic and trance inducing. > > Kraftwerk - Minimum Maximum > Expert knob twiddling, earth shaking bass, and the > way they mash up > 'Numbers' is simply sublime. Would you adam & eve it? Didn't hear about this, but I'll track it down. I really don't have a lot of new stuff I listened to this year. I found a bunch of really old electronic stuff and have been happy with that. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2005 08:01:35 -0000 From: "Clements, Bruno - BUP" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] strolling bones Colleague of mine has paid 165UK pounds a ticket for a seat the Cardiff show next year.
