Personally I'd be glad to have the sort of cash he has to grab CDs from a local shop on my day off, but there you are. It's difficult for those of us on a budget not to consider Amazon, I'm afraid - 100gb external hard drive from local shop, 120UK pounds, 250gb external hard drive from Amazon, 95UK pounds (free delivery). Which do you think I bought? ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Leaving the physical facts aside, how many people do you know who can distinguish between a wave file and a 196k mp3? I have a friend who designs plugins for a living - he's got an ear only top engineers have - he says he can't distinguish between a high resolution mp3 and a wave file. It's just like this vinyl thing - though experts and professionals can say what they want they forget that in the golden age of vinyl ordinary people had crap systems and that today most of them get more out of their inferior CD's or mp3's than they did with vinyl back in the 80's. This doesn't mean that I think prices for mp3's should be the same as CD's - I think CD's should be cheaper by at least 50% to begin with, but that's a completely different matter. cheers giluz - -- Now playing: http://www.last.fm/user/giluz/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Dec 2005 16:11:11 -0000 From: "Clements, Bruno - BUP" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Song sites face legal crackdown >>>>> iTunes shop - cheap and convenient<<<<<<<. >>No cheaper than CD, according to my iPod-owning friend. A (huh, sony doing the 'right thing'? that's odd)<<<<<<< Dropped my Archos MP3 player the other day, which gave it a nice, used-looking dent (still at least it's made of alu and not plastic). The music does get garbled a bit now and then so I'm hoping Archos will repair it under warranty, which they have a good reputation for - unlike Apple. ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. In many cases I can hear things through my MP3 player I've never heard from CD before - strange but true, considering a digit is a digit. Perhaps playback from hard drive at 7,000rpm is that much better than spinning a bit of plastic at 500rpm... PS Pushed the button on an early email before I'd added anything to it.
