Discovery wasn't as good as Homework. :) In essence; it's bland, it's shallow, if you want a joyous electrodiscopop record go get Mylo's "Destroy Rock And Roll", if you want headbending French attention-deficit electrodisco get the Jackson and his Computer Band record (it's fabulous, especially the first two tracks). It's alright, and alright isn't good enough. I also mostly gravitate towards the early 80's Church material (debut album up through Heyday), but I'll always be strong on Starfish and Gold Afternoon Fix because I first discovered The Church in 1988. I do have to say that The Church's recent album, Forget Yourself, is their best effort since Starfish. It's easily one of my favorite albums of the 2000's. Amen, I say, and it's about time. Hopefully the lost Arcadia tracks can be restored as bonus tracks or what-not. Aside from the debut Duran Duran album, which I still like best, Arcadia - So Red The Rose is my favorite work from that crew during the 80's. The song, "The Promise", Sting backing vocals and all, is pretty much a masterpiece, and I've always liked "Keep Me In The Dark". Amen, > I say, and it's about time. Hopefully the lost Arcadia tracks can be > restored as bonus tracks or what-not. > That's good news! I wonder if they'll be bonus tracks - or if the tracks will be extended. Perhaps they'll try a 2 disc approach - disc 1 remastered original album 40 minutes and disc 2 previously unreleased full length 80 minute version. I remember reading interviews at the time about how proud they were when they completed So Red The Rose. They were mentioning the track "Missing" as an example. It's kind of a slow burning, late period-Roxy-esque type of track. LeBon (or maybe Rhodes) mentioned that it was basically recorded live in the studio - as an almost improvisation. They (being Duran Duran) had never done anything like that before or worked with musicians of that caliber before. Other tracks like Rose Arcana, which is 50 seconds long, seem like excerpts from longer works. The vinyl on this title was amazing - the decision to hold it to 40 minutes was a sound one. For a while, this was one of the "Holy Grail" CDs. You know - the titles that would be natural on CD, but never released for one reason or another. It came out in Japan first - and I have that edition. Then, it came out as a standard U.S. Capitol/EMI edition. The U.S. edition is okay - nothing special. The Japanese edition is slightly stranger. It may be straight off the digital mixdown tape with no editing or EQ for CD - if you listen closely, and turn up the volume all the way, the tracks don't fade exactly to silence - they basically edit together. We got pretty close to announcing it and in fact some venues have already started publicising dates. However we have been scuppered by forces beyond our control (not the fault of either band or agent) and this now cannot take place in the original time frame. So now we are looking at coming back around this later in 06. By hook or crook well do our damdest to get to North America in 06!
