Initially I thought this was just OK in an Interpol copycat sort of way initially, but.a few plays later and I have to say that I love this album. I know describing it as sounding like Joy Division singing more conventional pop songs might sound off-putting, but there really are some good songs here, all sang in that low Curtis style voice. The albums slowie Fall is esp superb. Also loving the latest Devendra Banhart album. Not normally that keen on people who rip off Bolan's warble, but this guy makes it his own. Good stuff!! Keith np Julian Cope - Dark Orgasm (he thinks he's Alice Cooper on this one!!) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Dec 2005 18:45:44 EST From: MarkBursa@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] editors >>Anyone else here enjoying The Back Room by Editors? I wouldn't mind so much if it was derivative of a 25-year-old post-punk band, but it's derivative of a five-year-old revivalist band. The Editors' Munich single is in every way an Interpol outtake. Not just the vocal style, but even down to the way the guitarist does that staccato Dick Dale-style lead playing. Did the Editors start off as The Australian Interpol Show? BTW I like Interpol. They forged something of their own, against the musical climate, using shades of grey that had fallen off the palette in the late '90s. Rubbish lyrics mainly, but hey, that never held New Order back. And rather that than the Editors' rather overwrought, intense-young-man stuff about not needing diseases.. The only real complaint I have with Interpol is their attempt to be more commercial on the second album - all big U2-style choruses, just trying too hard. Got to say also, the much-maligned British Sea Power are a lot more interesting than the Editors too, in every department. >>Also loving the latest Devendra Banhart album. Not normally that keen on people who rip off Bolan's warble, but this guy makes it his own. Good stuff!!<< Hippie. I thought it was an idea of Interpol too, but now I think they are better. I like more songs from them than from Interpol, perhaps even better lyrics (comparing to Antics). In Interpol, I can pick the Chameleons rather easily, and Editors is something else than Joy Division (to me), but also familiar 80s. It is rather enjoyable, nothing ground breaking either, but not many things have to be. cheers! - -fernando On Dec 5, 2005, at 2:57 PM, Keith A wrote: > Anyone else here enjoying The Back Room by Editors? > > > > Initially I thought this was just OK in an Interpol copycat sort of > way > initially, but.a few plays later and I have to say that I love this > album.
