I'm sure I mirror all here when I say:Thankyou Colin, You're a beautiful man. Ari >>Ari, this is just a quick one, when I get home I'll send a longer communique. Al's ceremony was a momentous and moving affair, and just to give him something to brag about, where ever he is, Colin Newman came, because, as he put it "He made efforts to get to as many of my gigs as he could get to so the least I can do is turn up for his." And what a nice guy he is. I have some stuff I want to email to you, so I'll include alll that when I get home. I'm assuming you won't mind my rambling, occasional messages from Scotland, so I'll keep it up. Take lots of care, and I'll be in touch soon.<< __________________________________ Yahoo! Yes. You almost hear FF and BSA saying in 10 years time that David Cameron/Davis is the best thing to happened to the UK since Maggie (tell me this nightmare won't happen though). Just aswell they didn't draw on the venue's history as a former cowshed and get out the big shredder and spray the audience with silage, as they apparently once did. When they played Dublin a number of years ago, the gig ended with one of them lettting off a flare, and making an instant fume cupboard of the venue. Swift crowd dispersal. Couldn't see my hand in front of my face. Acrid smoke. Eyes smarting. I'm not a huge Faust fan, but was curious to check them out. It had it's moments but I found the drummers style overshadowed the music somewhat by being incredibly hamfisted. Fergus ps - do I take the silence on Alistair's SEND off to mean that, apart from Colin, no-one in London went ? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2005 15:02:25 +0100 From: "Clements, Bruno - BUP" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] Former cowshed Fergus wrote: ps - do I take the silence on Alistair's SEND off to mean that, apart from Colin, no-one in London went ? It's a fair question and, though I'm sure people aren't at all interested in excuses, they may also be (vaguely) aware that I have made the 160-mile round trip to London a few times in the last 18 months for pretty trivial reasons (ie, gigs). We were short staffed this week (with job cuts due before Christmas to add to the fun) and I worked a 10.45am-8pm shift on the day of Alistair's funeral. To get out of that for anything other than a crisis within my immediate family was, sadly, out of the question. I'm sure we were all there in spirit and have raised a glass or several in memory of Alistair. To have Colin there representing the band and, in effect, the list is probably better than we could have hoped for. I like to think Alistair and his family would understand. So, there is a big celebration for that. The scooter part relates to the indictment of I. "Scooter" Libby, the Chief of Staff to the Vice President, who is responsible for the intelligence processing to sell the war to the US (and parts of the world).
