I'm 33 years of age and attended a Franz Ferdinand show at a small venue (the now-defunct Cotton Club here in Atlanta) last year. I enjoyed the first album a bit, although not as much as many, but I mainly wanted to take the opportunity to see Franz Ferdinand in a small less-than-400-capacity venue here while I could, as I knew that they were selling out huge venues in Europe and their live shows were getting raves. The show was pretty good, but I felt strangely out of place. There were probably ten people at the show who were my age or older; the rest of the crowd seemed to consist of college hipsters and slightly-more-aware-than-their-peers high schoolers. You know...the "we read Pitchfork every day and buy all of our clothes from the websites advertised on the Pitchfork front page" types. At the Franz Ferdinand show, I felt...old. It was one of those "am I getting too old for this rock show thing?" moments and I've never had that before. Even at the shows like Interpol, Calla, British Sea Power, Bloc Party, etc. that I've been to, I see plenty of older music fans in the crowd. For some reason, though, the Franz Ferdinand show gave me the impression that I was walking into a college dorm party or something. It was neither here nor there because I don't get wound up about things like that, but it did feel a bit different and I got an age vibe there that I've never gotten at a concert before. I intend to keep watching bands as long as I can. I bet most of those kids were only their to look cool and pose. Half of them will probably become accountants and never go see a band again after they reach 25. The other half were probably thinking, how cool is that old fella?! ;) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Oct 2005 04:07:54 EDT From: CHRISWIRE@aol.com Subject: Re: [idealcopy] another the competition OT OT In a message dated 27/10/2005 03:54:51 GMT Daylight Time, sebek-hept@sbcglobal.net writes: a copy of the "Glam Goldmine" cd on the Big Eye label featuring iggy > and the stooges, the dolls, johnny thunders sweet, marc bolan, fallen > angels, impotent sea snakes, and pretty boy floyd Should have Keith A in heaven Chris NP.
