It was the group arguing about what they should put on the flexi disc. That's the whole thing. There's a new band that I believe just released their debut called She Wants Revenge, that bare a strong resemblence to the Human League of old, as well as Joy Division and New Order and a host of other bands from that era (sisters of mercy, too). It's not a brilliant record, but it is fun. Needless to say, the pop tart Astbury thinks Human is a great single, but then I think Jam & Lewis were responsible for some great 45's round that time. I'm probably on my Jack Jones here, but Janet Jacksons When I Think Of You was a glorious dance record. Mind you, the mighty Being Boiled notwithstanding, I think if you judge the other two by what they did with H17 / BEF, I reckon our Phil was better off without them. Bring on the girls, I say!! The reissue of Reproduction has all four parts to "The Dignity Of Labour" and the sound is quite excellent. These purchases have been of much benefit to me, as the Dare-era Human League was a big influence on my musical tastes when I first heard this stuff during my childhood, but I was previously unfamiliar with the pre-Dare material for the most part. Then theres another unheard song Flight from the 1975 demo session with Richard Hell on bass. Walter Lure played many sessions with The Ramones; here he takes lead vocals with the Ramones on Street Fighting Man, on a day when Joey didnt turn up. The CD is completed with four tracks from two other studio sessions in 1977 & 1978. DISC 2 has the legendary Speakeasy tapes from 1977 with Johnny abusing the audience remixed in 2005. Theyre now as performed in two sets, in unexpurgated glory and clarity with all 15 tracks together for the first time. DISC 3. This DVD has 50 minutes of unseen film footage. Five tracks are live at the Lyceum which didnt fit on the DEAD OR ALIVE video, four acoustic tracks are live in Greenhouse Studio, and six tracks live at The Marquee in August 1984, all with back-stage scenes from the venues. The DVD also has four separate extras sections:- the Lyceum soundcheck; a glimpse of Johnnys TV and tabloid troubles in Sweden; a clip from a French film; and a video-clip for Get Off The Phone. I didn't know he was sick. We traded some music a couple years back; he was very generous with some Wire shows and more. He will be missed. Life is too short. Perhaps because I'm the oldest on the list he shared many concerns with me about his private/family life and I felt priveliged to respond and advise, as I do with some others on this wonderful human group of people. I shall miss him as if he lived next door, as if he were a brother, and in many ways he was a brother to us all:his humor and wisdome was acute and rare, his ability to shine was unique and his passion for life was real. We'll miss you Bro. Ari __________________________________ Yahoo! I remember a friend thinking it very perverse that a couple of young men would come home from work and listening to something called "The Dignity of Labor." IIRC the flexi was members of the band talking about cosmonaut Yuri Gragarin.
