Saw them last year, and as Mark B said, they're another old band who are well worth seeing. They were superb - better than when I'd seen them in 1986! They sent out an invite to the album (Country Way) launch, so I'm hoping to make that next week. I love the way it says 'Preceded by Pub Quiz". You wouldn't get that with Robbie!! But going back to ITGOCW album... There's some great stuff on it - it sounds better than ever IMO, esp How To Age, an extraordinarily great riff-laden track that lasts some six and a half minutes, and features Lloyd extolling his words of wisdom before indulging in a spot of screeching that wouldn't sound amiss on an old rockabilly record. It's worth the admission for this track alone. I've asked him to inform me of the funeral arrangements so that I can let the IC know, and those that can attend could pay their repects. Colin & Graham have asked me to extend their condolences to Alistair's family, which I did. Thank you so much for your reply and comments. Thank you especially for contacting Ideal Copy. While not as 'proactive' as Al in being a Wire fan, our shared obsession goes all the way back to Pink Flag, and I was keen to use the group to allow the many people that he knew to learn of his passing. I have organised a suitably green funeral for him, and he's having a woven wicker coffin. If you have any last message, please send it, and I'll put it on a slip of paper to put into the weave. A friend of his phoned from France and asked me to write down something for her and read it to him. This was such a nice thought, I thought I would incorporate it into the ceremony as things moved so quickly that only myself and a few others had any opportunity to say our farewells. Take care. The thing is, I'm trying to work out whether or not he was one of the several list-members I met up with at the Barbican in 2003: I know you swapped e-mails:- did he ever send you any pics? I'm trying to figure out if the big bear of a guy with thinning close-cropped dark hair, glasses and a 3-week stubble type of beard that was present that night was him:- he's the only one I can recall who was in the pub I can't connect with a name offhand, and I find it inconceivable he wouldn't have been there that night, as it was on his 'home turf'...... Whatever, it's sad news that diminishes the list. I'll post my condolences presently....... Life's rich tapestry, eh? :-( Derek __________________________________ Yahoo! Leaves current bands in that style in the dust, it does. I saw them live a year or so ago and they were really, really excellent; able to hit every note in true 1982 style. That said, The Dignity of Labour parts 1-4 are probably still their best work. To date, I've met five IC-ers and have enjoyed meeting and hanging with them all! Regardless, his posts have been fascinating and I was sorry to read about his passing on. Best wishes to all who were close to him, and perhaps we can all make a silent toast to "absent friends" the next time we're at a concert that really kicks ass!
