Their performance on 'Later' a couple of years back with a song called (I think)"Silly bully boys" was quite arresting. For those not familiar with them, think of the bastard offspring of a troupe of circus clowns and assorted axe-weilding maniacs playing 1930's 'Hot Club' style swing-jazz and that about nails what I saw....... The Ruts remix you mentioned sounds interesting. I *really* liked the band, and the song in question, but whether I could take 16 versions is another thing entirely. Jan Noorda wrote: Went to a performance of the Tiger Lillies the weekend before. I once bought there album with Kronos Quartet. And I thought they are funny. This performance was well played, but not much variety in style. Never repeat the same kind of joke. Heard from them after the concert they will release a DVD next year with Alexander Hacke (from Einsturzende Neubauten). this from GR ..with ignorance and hate... Babylon is Burning again!!! A lot of you are gonna love this AWESOME remix of The Ruts! Only 3000 copies, out on Collision early November THE RUTS - Babylons Burning reconstructed dub drenched soundscapes You might think that 16 remixes of one song might get dull, but every one is burnin'... I think some of you may have heard of this. It's called "Acoustica". It's classical musicians performing the works of Richard D. James, aka Aphex Twin. The classical ensemble (it's not quite an orchestra) is called "Alarm Will Sound". Everything is performed acoustically by the classical ensemble with the addition of electric guitars, electric bass and Fender Rhodes (electric piano). Apparently, they did use some exotic and/or homemade acoustic instruments - Uboingee Spring Guitar and Refridgerator Rack Lamellophone are listed - but everything else is flute, string, woodwinds, percussion. It's amazing how well some of this stuff works. I'm just skimming it right now, but it's facinating. Obviously, Aphex Twin has often used String "pads" on his synths - now it's come full circle. Cheers, Paul ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #276 *******************************
