Bit harsh, that. Although I too cannot stand their 3rd-division 'Queen tribute band' stylee, I must admit that they seem to have a sense of their own ridiculousness that I find a tad disarming. However, if I see an interveiw and find they've started taking theirselves po-faced serious, then that'll change...... >>Sweet on speed though? I was watching an old TOTP2 yesterday and it had Fox >>On The Run on it. ///// From my recollection of an interveiw I once saw with their singer, [the late] Brian Connolly, Sweet had a really odd record deal with Mickey Most at the helm:- it basically boiled down to this :- the A-Sides of singles were all picked and pressed on the band by 'da management'. and on the B-sides, the Sweet could do pretty much what they liked, which usually boiled down to doing 'hard rock', rather a la Led Zeppelin lite, and on those terms, weren't bad at it. Frustrated rockers rather than full-on glam band, I think. I'm nearly sure they played an entire set like that one year, at the Donnington 'Monsters of Rawk' horrorshow.................and were well received IIRC. - --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Oct 2005 18:05:13 +0100 From: "Keith A" Subject: Re: [idealcopy] Githead Interview at PSF > GITHEAD INTERVIEW > > http://www.perfectsoundforever.com Fave quote... I am blessed with the ability to make almost any set of unrelated words sound either meaningful or meaningless. Also noticed... I also rather belatedly discovered both the Notwist's Neon Golden which has a fantastic 4 track opening sequence and Death Cab For Cutie's album Something About Airplanes which also has a great opening sequence (apart from the 2nd track). Neon Golden is glorious. i'm hard pressed to think of a better album since this. To my shame I have been to see The Darkness. We were drunk, it was Christmas, it seemed like a good idea. I realised half way through the gig when they had played the two hits (I did think their Xmas song was a good comedy record) that they were actually just a really bad heavy metal band. And I dont like Heavy Metal. > > Sweet on speed though? I was watching an old TOTP2 yesterday and it had Fox > On The Run on it. > > What a glorious single that is! I have limited knowledge of The Sweet, apart from the fact the Blockbuster was No.1 when I was born, and I find the TOTP clip of that hilarious when the guy with the bad make up looms into shot and says "We just haven't got a clue what to doooo". Also saw some documentary about them a while back with the lead singer looking like the ghost of Glam Rock, made Ozzy Osbourne look like Cliff Richard. My question is, is "Fox on the Run" the song that Vic and Bob sing when Donald Cox (The Sweaty Fox) comes out on Shooting Stars? > > >>NP Microdisney - 39 Minutes one from the late 80's & still pleasant > > enough > >>if sounding very late 80's ! >>I presume alot of listees remember them ? I'm a big fan of The High Llamas, featuring ex Microdisney man Sean O'Hagan. I was a bit late for Microdisney themselves I think they split up just before I started listening to Peel etc. What do they sound like? ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #267 *******************************
