Modern Dance is due for one of these 5.1 (is it ?) remaster releases soon. Perhaps He'll do the whole back catalogue especially as he's now releasing "directors cut" editions of some of the more recent albums with different versions/mixes of some of the songs. Which leads me to the Monster box. I haven't gotten around to buying the new version but the original contained 3 albums reissued just as was, but More Places Forever (featuring Tony Maimone, Chis Cutler and Lindsay Cooper) was radically remixed and some of Variations on a Theme was completely re-recorded. Once you got used to it it was largely for the better but Thomas, unusually, seems to have given in to fan pressure and included four of the original versions on the new issue of the box. The new issue excludes a bonus disc of Thomas and Two Pale Boys live , Meadville. And we aren't the only people who've spotted this. Someone said as much on some radio show I tuned into randomly , and I think the same accusation popped up on some TV prog (Late reveiw ?? Paul Morley perhaps?) The difficult third album will be a pile of dreck at this rate.........bloody corporatist rockstars. Bah ! :-( Let-down all round. In a couple of years, I predict they'll have settled into Travis-like mode, where they still sell albums full of aural wallpaper, but no-one will own up to actually buying them:-they'll sound like 1000's of other identikit 'indie' bands, joining them in the "reduced to #4.99" bin at Tesco etc..... Just got off of an IM with my sister, and we were discussing my nephew, who is in Special Forces. Up until recently he has been in Afghanistan, and until today I thought he still was. Get this he was recalled last week from Afghanistan to go to New Orleans. When my sister told me this, I was amazed. I asked her how many troops were pulled from IRAQ to go to NO, she said according to him, NONE. He also said that more troops are desperately needed in Afghanistan as the Taliban and their cronies are extremely active again, setting up terrorist training camps out in the open, fearful of no one. Why? Because we only HAD about 11,000 troops in Afghanistan to begin with, and now we have less. That isnt enough to patrol the country and put a stop to the Taliban and Al Qaida, and the warlords that were so helpful at first, now that we have given them money and weapons, are once again assisting the Taliban and Al Quaida. According to my sister, he also says that munitions, ordinance and much-needed supplies are not reaching Afghanistan, but being redirected to Iraq. They are in desperate need of supplies there but cannot get them because Iraq has higher priority. Then she went on to tell me that we are not being told the whole story by far with regards to NO. He claims he watched a cable news show being filmed on the streets of NO, there were armed soldiers all around (including him). They were not there to PROTECT the press, they were there to PREVENT the press from revealing anything our government doesnt want revealed. One of the jails there is being used as a temporary holding cell for journalists deemed undesirable until they can be removed from the country. Their visas are being revoked and they are being kicked out of the country. Several journalists from overseas have been kept there, and there are outstanding warrants for others. WHAT DOES THIS SOUND LIKE TO YOU? Does this sound like the land of the free and home of the brave or does this sound like the USSR 25 years ago? To those on the Southern Freeway Bloggers site, if this is off-topic, sorry, I have to spread the word. Denise __________________________________ Yahoo! OK, I've always liked the idea of Prog Rock but never the reality. This sounds like what I imagined but never heard. Its essentially indie rock with a big dollop of Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Mercury Rev...but with lots of chord changes/time changes and the big, brassy bits the former never did cos they were being cool...bit not at all wanky and gnome-like. Nothing like King Crimson, not smelly at all and girls would like it!. Cool! (And probably no more Prog than '154'!) Will also recommend the new Broadcast LP 'Tender Buttons'. More stripped down than usual and those of you turned off by the arch Joe Meek/Joe 90/60s spy theme revivalism of earlier releases may like this stripped down, chillier approach they now adopt.
