Fresh, energetic and very live and organic - Profile is at once more understandable and accessible after this gig (yes - the album sounded a bit problematic at first, but started to unfold only about a month later. C&M certainly get even more subtle over the years) Playing before a packed venue, for most of whom it was the first time of listening to the music, cause there were certainly more people than copies of Profile sold, the response was terrific and the audience was, quite out of character for Israselis, open, receptive and eager to be challenged. Joined for the last half hour by Berry sakharof, Minimal Compact's ex-guitarist, it peaked with an almost ridiculously over the top 5 guitars version of LBM (yes- max the drummer also played guitar). The tour continues tomorrow in germany - don't miss it. Full review soon cheers giluz - -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Accessible with your email software or over the web ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 10:20:46 +0100 From: "Keith A" Subject: [idealcopy] Fire Engines From todays Guardian... "The rise of the likes of Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party has proved good news for 1980's bands of a jerky persuasion. This year has seen the continued activity of Wire, the return of the Gang of Four and a great compilation of early works from Edwyn Collins' Orange Juice." The continued activity of Wire? Did I miss something? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Sep 2005 01:27:09 +0100 From: Tim Subject: Re: [idealcopy] A Brief Return - Githead in Tel-Aviv Welcome back Giluz, Look forward to yr full report. I remember watching the 'Wire' magazine interviews online with Colin, Malka and Robin Scanner (not sure if they are still up there) and wondering if there could possibly be any more enthusiastic people in Rock than those three? giluz wrote: > Hi y'all, > > I'm not really in the mood to write a full review right now but just > wanted to let you know that the Githead gig in Tel-Aviv a couple of days > ago was WICKED. Excellent stuff. Whats not to like?...lush strings, chord changes to die for, orgasmic guitar crescendos that put Godspeed to shame, incomprehensible lyrics and an oompah-oompah bit. This'll do! You can almost imagine them headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, which they probably would if only they sang in English so idiot Coldplay fans would get it. Oddly I hear bits of Kate Bush in there too (who has been discussed here lately) esp on Se Lest. I'm amazed, I didn't think Sigur Ros were up to something this good. There you go. ------------------------------ End of idealcopy-digest V8 #253 *******************************
