Hmmm, loaded several gigs onto my new Archos Gmini XS200 - the whole thing shuts down occasionally, without warning, and stops playing WMA files saying 'Track name' is unsupported. Great. Not recommended, though as I said before it is cheap and light... sounds fantastic too, when it feels like it. Calling all techies! I need some help choosing a new mp3 player. I used to have an Archos Jukebox 20 which was brick heavy, ugly as sin, held together with duct tape but sounded superb and did its job for 3 years of abuse before finally dying on me last week. Bought a Toshiba Gigabeat F20, and its f**king crap. It distorts like f**k with the EQ, weedy bass (even using my own headphones as the bundled ones of course are useless as you'd expect) plus the software is terrible and totally buggy. Toshiba tech support is of course dire. Its going back to the shop. But what else to buy? I'm not keen on Ipod because I've heard they distort as soon as you apply a bit of bass and I don't like this #60 to replace a battery thing. Priorities are: 20gb at least. Good sound quality and a proper EQ cos I like to fiddle, robust enough to stand up to everyday use and preferably not have to send away to get the battery changed after 18 months like the Ipod. That might have elicited some response.. sorry 'bout that.. unfortunately I've just mailed The Wire to pass on the tickets as the deadline has passed.. I won them in an online competition with The Wire, which I only entered for a laugh, little expecting to actually win it.. It's my week for freebies as I went to see the Bang On A Can Allstars last night with tickets I won through an Irish Times competition. They were pretty good, even if the programme of works was not the most inspiring. Highlights would have been 'Streetwalker' by our own Donnacha Dennehy, 'Stroking Piece' by Thurston Moore, and 'Workers Union' by Louis Andriessen. They're a very lively and friendly ensemble, with quite a bit of preamble to introduce each piece. Fergus __________________________________ Yahoo! But wouldn't it be a dull old world etc. etc. As regards Wire rarities I have listened to Turns and Strokes more seldom than any other WMO release and Coatings probably more often. Which may relate to the above preference. Very very fond of The Haring, which might have something to do with liking Ivor Cutler.
