"Outside Closer" by Hood -- this just keeps growing on me. it's complex electro indie poppishness. "The Dreams Our Stuff is Made Of" by The Purrs -- really fun rock album from Seattle. sounds vaguely like mellow, early Rolling Stones. "Waves and Echoes" by Portal -- another indie pop and electro album and yet the manage to sound absolutely nothing at all like Hood. more Cocteau Twins than Hood are -- so i guess this is electro dreampop indieness. good stuff. "One Ten Hundred Thousand Million" by The Octopus Project -- electroclash dance rock from Austin, TX. this is really energetic and fun. EPs "Guidance" by Avrocar -- really fun and complex. i love this band. "Birth" by The Funeral -- electrofied gothic rockers from Denver do a Gang of 4 cover, and do it well. their original stuff is fun too. "Eternifininty" by The Mattoid -- whacky Nashville based Finn manages to make really quirky music that is still catchy and fun. Live shows i've liked so far this year: Dalek -- avante-hip hop from Philly. they put on a good show evne though the rapper had a cold/was running a fever. British Sea Power -- the new album is not bad, but it has no songs on it that really grab me. however, they still kicked it live. Pylon -- reunion show from very fun old Athenian post-rock act. loved it. hmm. that's all i can think of so far.... but it has been a sparse musical year for me. three months of unemployment ate into my busy CD purchasing schedule. i'll have to play catch up here shortly! so many albums that i have not heard..... any other new album recommendations from the crowd here? PJK please don't hate me because i can't type..... - --- All the cool kids are doing it: HTTP://www.EvilSponge.org ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Jul 2005 23:42:36 +0100 From: "Keith Knight" Subject: RE: [idealcopy] musings I can tell you've been away for two weeks if you think that this summer needs to 'improve' - it's been unbearably hot. But then again, should I be apologising to non-cricket playing nations at all...?) The first podcast I've listened to actually. How does it work exactly, through Garageband? I noticed a podcasts folder in my new Itunes, but that's just for filing isn't it? Joseph Beuys said everbody's an artist - bet now he would have said everyone's a DJ.
