Oh yeah. Let's see...first off, the setlist: That's Good Girl U Want Whip It Satisfaction Uncontrollable Urge Mongoloid Blockhead Jocko Homo Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy Gates of Steel Encore: Freedom of Choice Beautiful World w/ Booji Boy My favorite of the bunch was probably "Gates Of Steel". It's more conventional-sounding Devo, but it also translates particularly well to the stage. All of the more guitar-oriented material fared particularly well ("Mongoloid", etc.). Before the band took stage, a brief introduction film showed on the big screen behind the stage. The band took stage in the trademark yellow industrial jumpsuits and hats ("Whip It Hats" or "Flowerpot Hats", whichever you wish to name them); during the show, they threw out several such hats into the audience. All in all, it was a killer show and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to have this particular band under my belt as far as live show experiences are concerned. I dare you. Nosirree, I won't be doing so, either. I come from a position of ignorance as to what band members thought of Thorne's work.... Presumably though he got Colin's vote seeing as how he worked on A-Z too. On this list I've only read a couple of posts in all the time I've been here, lurker and poster alike, where anything even obtusely negative was said about M.T. , and one of those was in the recent discussion vis a vis "Behind the Curtain" :- I think somebody implied that it was refreshing to hear those songs from "154" and "Chairs Missing" shorn of Mr Thorne's [ overpowering ] production........ Hmm. I guess it all comes down to your attitude to effects boxes, and their use on guitars etc. Some folks would rather have a very flat, largely 'dry' production, with absolutely *no* FX, "PinkFlag" stylee. Me ?? I always thought Mike Thorne brought an appropriate touch to the production task, that was largely sympathetic to the material. As a 'for instance' I can think of no suitable alternative mix for "Being sucked in again" that doesn't include that great , rolling (heavily chorused/flanged) bass sound: throughout CM the material sits in entirely the appropriate soundscape. Since listening to BTC's 'alternative' versions has reinforced that. [Although the version of "Underwater Experiences" was something of a surprise.......] As for the more general point that this thread has raised regarding the nature of the list, and the amount of OT twittering, as one of the guilty parties, I'm not sure how my veiwpoint fits, but here it is anyhow....... I lurked hereabouts for some while before making my 'debut' posting- I registered in Sept 2001, I think, and only posted something a couple of days before 'Flag : Burning' to say "Hello: where are we meeting?". It's true that discussion on-list ranged far and wide, and there was generally at least as much OT chat going on as discussion of Messrs Newman Lewis Gilbert & Gotobed and their works. That I didn't un-sub was testament to the useful stuff I learned (eg music that I'd missed , gigs, the odd touch of politics and even the odd lively spat, etc) and to the general atmosphere within the group. Having said "Hello" the welcome mat was out, and I felt at home. I'll be honest here:- I don't belong to a huge amount of online forums / mail-lists, and the main reason for that is that so many of them seem populated by obsessive monomaniacal types.... I'm glad the topics weave around somewhat. There's a limit to how many times you * can * dissect back catalogue, after all. It is not *that* surprising that we all have some other music in common. Nor is it surprising to find out different tastes are represented hereabouts, too. From electro- to pop/rock to new classical /minimalist. It's the nature of the beast that is Wire: their elements, if you will , that attracts such a fanbase. I like the way things are here, hissy fits are a rarity, Even the odd snit doesn't hang in the air like a bad smell. I've met [both literally and electronically] some good people in here. And it's good when those lurking say "Hello"....:-) Hello to y'all. Tired of spam? Yahoo!
